Initially this had great blueberry and liquorice nose, very direct and a palate of crisp blue and red fruits with good lift. I then finished the last remaining glass of this bottle 5 days later as had quite forgotten about it. What a very pleasant surprise when I poured this to smell very funky aromas of barn and earth, the palate had softened and opened up a range of fruits with a fuller midpalate and softer texture. Great! This really excites me about the potential of 08 burgundies.

A restaurant purchase, so not a proper note. But for £35 in a pricey restaurant, this was a notably good bottle of Burgundy. Nicely balanced with good fruit and a pleasant softness. It seemed pretty much ready to drink.

Beautiful Burgundies of Domaine Maillard Pere & Fils with Winemaker Pascal Maillard & Importer Olivier Daubresse (Chain Bridge Cellars, McLean, VA): restrained and earthy, this offers a mouthful of mushroom notes. quite nice.

At the Hunny Bell: pale, but very fine, persistent, cherry fruit, superbly focused, a lick of freshening tannin - superb for a Chorey
