Cork was in very good shape; wine has been open in the bottle (not decanted) for about 3 hours. Nose is not particularly expressive; faint red berries, some iron-y earthiness and some hint of charred leafiness. I would say subdued complexity; it’s nice but it is also a bit hard to place. Palate is a bit more expressive with notes of tomato leaf, black raspberries, cherries, and a hint of blood sausage (?!) Plenty of primary fruit left, it’s striking a lovely balance between the high acidity and the supple tannins. A little on the shy side, especially paired with steak frites and a black olive aioli, but in the end exactly what I am looking for in a 25 year-old Bordeaux. For bottles that have been well-stored there’s no rush here; plenty of time left.

Not a powerful wine but very enjoyable. Took a while to open up but then shows a lot of dark plum and blueberry fruit. Excellent acidity lifting sour cherries to balance the base of wood, leather and smokiness.

Surprisingly firm tannins but also felt a bit disjointed. Black fruit and distinct cabernet flavors but also a bit watery and flat finish. It has a lot of classic old charm but is not dense enough to score high. I do not think this wine will develop further and should be enjoyed now.
