(Vietti Barolo Castiglione) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-big red fruit, but very tight on the nose; PALATE-classic; much more Old World; has a deeper an astringent mid-palate; very tight; the tannins are quite bitter; taste Old World; balanced; well made; good deep dark beef jerky meets plum; a well rounded Barolo with elegance (predict $40); love this; great wine; WS-92; GV-91

January 2010, (See more on Sommelier Journal...)

(Vietti) Dark, purple-red, almost velvet in color. Nondescript initial aromas give way to a subtle perfume of red roses. The wine is full and round on the palate, featuring ripe black-cherry, grape, and berry flavors, until the tannins take over in a mouth-puckering, chewing-tobacco-like finish. Drinkable now, but needs more time. Terroir: Vigneto Rocche
