  • Given the wine's age I approached it with some trepidation. I wound up pushing the cork into the bottle, since the only direction it would move was down. Then decanted it for two hours, before drinking it with a veal and pasta dish, for which it was an excellent complement. The wine was in terrific condition: dark rust in color with little if any brown at the edges, and remarkable clarity. The nose and palate were a little muddled, with suggestions of plum and black cherry, and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The wine had considerable weight in the mouth despite its 12.5% alcohol reading. We finished the bottle on the second day, by which time it had gotten even better: clarified aromas, taste and mouthfeel; simply fantastic! The bottle greatly exceeded our expectations, and left us with regret that it was our last bottle.
