First Cote Rotie and was not disappointed. Solidly medium bodied with mouth filling texture. Mixed red and black fruits, some smokiness and a nice earthy finish. Have a 2009 but am waiting on it. Wish I had a few more bottles to enjoy now and see how it develops.

A private lunch (Restaurant Epicure ***, Hotel Le Bristol, Paris): Fabulously fragrant, quite a lot of spicy oak, floral, sweet fruit, very elegant and expressive, wonderful minerality provides support, soft but adequate acidity, refined tannins, drinking beautifully in its youth, good length.

A little muddied robe, no structure, little Elegance, much less of what is expected from a côte rôtie. Acceptable not brilliant.

Berry Bros 2008 Rhone tasting (1 Great George Street, London): Quite a vivid cranberry colour again. Much softer than the Ogier Cote Rotie. I think it will drink much younger. Less good than the Ogier.
