  • I don't understand why my bottle is labeled exactly like the one in the picture, except my bottle is labeled with an alcohol content of 15% not
    14%. Why the discrepancy????

  • A very big red wine that is full of life, alcohol and spice. Its' a classic Amarone that is still holding up after eighteen years. I would give it another 2-5 years of good, healthy life. There a little tannins left but what a mouthful of balanced, consistent juice. There are intense aromas of black currants and black cherries, licorice and pepper. On the palate it has spicy, peppery characteristics and a hot finish that is due to the high level of alcohol (15%). This is not a wine for the faint of heart and it is big, intense and in your face. I actually enjoyed it with a homemade pizza (loaded w/ mushrooms, pepperoni, peppers, onions and hot peppers).

  • A very pleasant surprise after initially coming across a very mouldy cork that virtually disintegrated upon opening (stored very poorly by the previous owner, I'd guess - shouldn't be happening to a wine of this age, really). Deep purple colour showing some bricking around the edges and some distinctive barnyard aromas at first (in fact, I thought it was corked before I tasted it). After an hour the unpleasantness blew off to reveal quite a complex array of stewed fruits backed by very strong acidity. It actually improved considerably by day 2 and became a highly pleasant wine - prunes, concentrated sultanas and the acidity was much more balanced. No question that this has 4 - 6 years left in it, and may even improve over the next year or two.

  • Eye: deep inky purple with red trim along the rim. Nose: dark fruit, smoke, alcohol, yeast, cocoa. Palate: seems soft at first but good structure still behind, full body, solid alcohol but not overpowering, long long finish. Surprisingly great quality for the value.
