At its apogee garnet red. Very complex nose of blackberry blueberry and first flashes of mushroom and wet forest floor. Full bodied with silky tannins and very long finish.

Last note was in March 2016. I had a look at what I'd written eight years ago to refresh my memory. It's still pretty much in the same place with an inky dark red color in the glass with rich dark fruits on the palate and a texture like silk, but still some decent tannins left. The oak seems to have gone though. Over a couple of hours it evolved and became more complex. I guess that there must be at least another five years or longer left in this beauty from a fantastic vintage. This was the last bottle from a case of six. But I have the 2020 to look forward to in a few years time.

Winefield's pre-sale tasting: I often have a kind of struggle with the older vintages of Talbot with often a rubbery impression in the bouquet and this '70 had, for me, that rubbbery impression. In the second part of the taste the wine was more balanced, but not so elegant.
