Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • $21.59 retail, after discount. I opened this next to the 2003 Domaine Gauby (VdP des Cotes Catalanes) "Les Calcinaires" blanc (see TN). These two wines were made in completely different styles: The Gauby was all about fresh, floral fruit. The Pithon white, in contrast, was, IMO, totally dominated by new oak. The nose showed spice, vanilla, an a bit of honey; no noticeable fruit. On the palate, a slightly disjointed, again, very woody wine; lightly spicy, a bit hot. Not my style - especially at over $20 retail.
