From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 1 hour. Aromatically closed up tight; broad dark-fruited palate with silky (French oak) tannins and crowd-pleasing acid/fruit balance. Nothing resembling complexity, but a fair degree of depth in the fruit shows that Pujanza worked hard to make the best of a poor vintage here. Look forward to trying my single bottle of the 2006 in a few years time. Overpriced, overhyped, but a well-deserved 88-90P

Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah Drunk over two days. Clear, deep purple-ruby color. Clean, medium+ youthful-developing nose that has nothing in common with classic Rioja wines and is still very fruit driven: Lost of red and black fruit, some sweetness, almost no tertiary notes. Very young and pleasant. Dry, medium acidity. Medium+, silky tannin. High alcohol (14% abv), that is almost perfectly integrated. On the palate very expressive dark fruit, some spices and a few toasting notes. Creamy, silky, balanced and fruit driven. A serious crowd pleaser in the best sense. Medium+ finish, a bit hot in the end. Needs some time and air, so I guess it has a potential of at least 3+ years. What will happen if the fruit vanishes? Hmm, I don’t know… 90-91+. Good PQR

Fine complex New style Rioja. Blueberries, forest, vanilla notes. Slightly lactic notes. Nice wine.

Nice blueberries. Good acidity backbone. Nevertheless the fruit was a little behind. Drink it within a year.
