Cellartracker in the flesh with Stefan (Stefan's office, Hongodai): "Served blind. ripe cherry, polished oak lends plenty of sweet spice. Sourly juicy, textured burr, cherry, a little almost minty freshness…Hmm. Nose says Pinot but palate says not…Spanish? Macedonian…15 years old?"

1994 Wolf Blass "Black Label" Cabernet/Shiraz/Merlot
11/27/99 at home watching a movie with Hiroko. Deep, rich-looking dark ruby color. Looks absolutely fabulous. Great legs too. It really couldn't be more attractive or inviting. (5/5) Such a fabulous wine on the nose. Honestly, it smells more like a Port than anything. Amazingly rich and concentrated. Black licorice. Port-like wine without the alcoholic sharpness. I have never tasted anything comparable. (14/15) An absolute MONSTER on the palate. A veritable treasure trove of black fruits. Wow! Not subtle, not elegant, and not even especially complex (though it is opening up and gaining complexity in the glass), it is nevertheless a fabulous wine. It is not just the fruit, it is the great balance and body, not to mention the total absence of overly harsh tannins. Indeed, for such a huge wine, it is incredibly smooth and round. Long, rich finish, and hardly a hint of high alcohol. (19/20) This is a killer. A fruit BOMB, but SO much more. Yahoo for this one. (9/10) (97/100)
