Spectacular wine in its prime drinking window. Great depth and black fruit. Sauvage and a bit of funk when opened that yielded to a forest floor, dark berries with great length. Amazing effort in an average year.

Pretty ruby red color. Some beginning signs of development. On the nose, this is pretty and complex. Dark red and wild berry fruits. A touch of premium oak still present. Spice. Some dried flowers. On the palate, this is elegent with rich red and black cherry fruit, and spice. Lifting acidity. Dry tannin and extract on the mid palate with a core drying minerality on a still tannic finish. The tannin is ripe and very drinkable right now, but this has the structure last another decade…easily. On the very early side of its drinking window. Very promising.

After a bit of aeration, beautiful earhty, gamey nose with spices, dried meat. The palate is lovely too, medium bodied, fresh, good stuffing for a 2013, tannins still young. I had this side to side to the Les Cailles. It confirms that the Les Cailles can be approached at age 10 but the more structured Vaucrains needs more like 15 years. This is no different. I would not open this bottle before 2028. 93-94

Decanted 6 hrs. This Chevillion nose was a bit like the Little Engine That Could. Not much out of the gate initially, this slowly but steadily, kept growing and gaining aromatic velocity, finally reaching a bouquet that was primarily savory, roasted meat juices and the like, with a little bit of back end florals. Being a Vaucrains (my first) I know the rep for this PC is one of the more structured of the NSG 1er’s, but I found this rather open, chiseled for sure, but certainly accessible. Approximately a quarter of this wine displayed with a dark cherry profile, with the balance being comprised of briary, soil, and earth tones. Well placed acidity keeps this very, fresh, and subtle kick of white pepper on the landing. However, on the last glass the tannins really came on strong, I guess it had decided to flex its muscles on the finale. Great wine with tons of upside.

Vertical/Horizontal Tasting of Chevillon Nuits St. Georges Premier Crus (San Francisco): Light ruby core. Fragrant deep dark berry aromas. Medium weight and it gains body as it goes. Upfront blueberry but then dominated by soil and green notes. Substantial acidity, frankly tart finish. Not ready but I just don't like the balance here.
