  I’m with Salil on this one. While not always a fan of 06 burgs that can be lean, this was hitting on all cylinders. Rick and bittersweet, with red, black and purple fruits swirling together. I just enjoyed keeping this in my mouth for a while. A serious wine. I’ll hold my other bottle for at least 5 more years.

  Burgundy Paulée with the Chevaliers du Tastevin (Chez Mike, East Greenbush, NY): Bright cherry nose with a hint of forest floor. Rich and elegant. Tannins still somewhat overt. Just fine for this Barolo-lover, but probably best in 5-10 years. 93-95

  I've had some '06s that felt rather charmless and ornery - given this was a Nuits, wasn't sure what to expect, but this was absolutely stellar and one of my favorites of the evening. A darker fruited profile with lots of savoury earthy and faint iron-like notes beneath the fruit but the overall balance is terrific and the aromatics keep building with time, taking on brighter herbal and sweeter notes with air as it becomes really enjoyable to sit down with and follow over. I'll keep my hands off my one bottle of '06 Roncieres a while longer, but this has me a lot more excited and optimistic about some of the 06s.
