A wine on its last legs. Light ruby with a mature gold / amber rim. Very mature nose of earth and gravel. There is a bit of sour cherry fruit. Old, dusty palate with just a bit of fruit left. Strong tobacco element. Just hanging on. Ok but not special - better as history than reality. (83)

The cork had TCA on the side, but the wine did not seem to be evidently affected. The first sips were good, but did show some oxidative notes on the finish which also was somewhat harsh. During the course of the evening the wine seemed to gain weight and depth and had a juicy and fresh attack. The finish did keep that harshness which was evident at the beginning and which I attributed to a light TCA taint. Too bad, because the wine evidently had a lot to give.

East Bay Burgundy Group - Holiday Dinner Party (Chez R&G): in spite of the (formidable) competition, this well held its own. nose - sexy , barnyard, animale, rustic, sous bois per Slaton mouth -delicious, lush, nice mix of savory and sweet, showing superb. of note I came back to this 36 hours later (cellartemp) and it was tired and stiff without any of the funk or previous charm.

East Bay Burgundy Group - Holiday Dinner Party: This was in a lovely spot, probably a perfect state of development for mine. Sous-bois, iron, earth nose and a pleasantly developed, softened palate. One of the better older Nuits wines I have had.

Another solid bottle. High toned acidity and lots of savory, earthy notes, but still enough fruit here to keep things balanced and vibrant.
