Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by multimax on 5/15/2016 & rated 90 points: Pale lemon yellow. In the nose flint, some petrol and rather ripe fruit, such as peach, pineapple. Also a touch of wild meadow flower honey.
Medium body which is nicely carried by the acidity and the minerality. The aromas on the palate mirror the nose, with the addition of orange (blossom). Long finish. Overall well balanced. Now already a bit on the mature side but still hanging in there nicely. (975 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 3/12/2016: Riesling Blitzkrieg by FC1910; 3/11/2016-3/12/2016 (Teatro Campos Elíseos - Bilbao): Austere on the nose and pretty acid in the mouth. Vintage doesn't help.

Austera nariz y ácida en boca. La añada no ayuda. (2127 views)
Tasted by fc1910 on 8/10/2014 & rated 85 points: A Großes Gewächs summernight: quite a lot petrol on the nose and palate, some honeylike flavours, tropical fruit such as mango, limy minerality, but for me at this moment too ripe bottle, **- ***?, 84- 86+? (1595 views)
Tasted by fc1910 on 7/4/2014 & rated 89 points: matured colour, a shining bright golden, intense mineralic flavours in the nose, some green and yellow fruits, on the palate a herbal appearance, some green apples, spicy and smoky, needs a lot of air still, develops in the glass over two hours to a more balanced and complex wine, tight, maybe should wait some more (3+) years, long finish, *(**+), 88-91+?  Tasted by Rezy13 on 12/12/2013 & rated 91 points: Pale yellow with green hues; nose of candied lime, clean and mineral driven, green apple; palate is richer but very focused and German- not generous but substantial, lime and green apple continue, smoky slate adds depth, and the finish echoes with a hint of white pepper, through all of it an impressive vein of acidity keeps everything taut and delicious; had at Aria, went ok with several dishes but I thought it showed its best with the trout with lump crab meat in a sunchoke purée where the wine brought out the salinity and the fish really showed its best.  Tasted by SWHighlander on 10/5/2012 & rated 90 points: Very dry (residual sugar 1.5), with bright acidity with even a slight sour note, green apple flavors with a smooth finish with some roundness to it. May be a bit tight still, at least the bottle we had tasted at the winery. (980 views)
Tasted by Cal Bear on 5/6/2011 & rated 93 points: Tasting notes consistent with huse review below. Outstanding balance of mineral, fruit and acid, playful and complex, with almonds on the nose. Remarkable value. Would likely be wonderful and more nuanced with some age, but fabulous now. (1304 views)
Tasted by huse on 11/24/2010 & rated 93 points: Weingut Pfeffingen (Fuhrmann-Eymael) is one of the leading estates in the Pfalz region (Mittelhaardt) ; the wines keep getting better and better from year to year. The Ungsteiner Weilberg Riesling 2008 is the best 2008 „ First Growth“ that I’ve tasted so far. A delicious dry wine with a clear, pale lemon color and an enticing nose of orange blossom, pineapple, nectarine, marzipan and also a touch of flint. Complex and very well structured palate with abundant, youthful Riesling fruit and laced with a really tangy acidity and a steely minerality. Beautiful, lingering finish. Gives great pleasure right now and probably 4-5 years on. Just heavenly.

(2453 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
