| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 46 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Naplesgolfer on 4/7/2018 flawed bottle: oxidized (1585 views) | | Tasted by whudock on 7/27/2016 & rated 91 points: quite dense in its flavors, but still light enough to not overpower a cream sauce. (2361 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 2/13/2016 & rated 91 points: I was sort of expecting a boozy, thick, sweet white from Turley, but this was actually quite nice. Yes, it was very rich and somewhat heavy, but did not show much heat and had some very enjoyable flavors. (2581 views) | | Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 3/31/2015 & rated 90 points: Much improved over the last bottle. Really held up well with a Hamache/green curry/peanut dish. (3087 views) | | Tasted by Backdoctor on 8/15/2014 & rated 90 points: melon on the palate, coats your mouth, very good (3730 views) | | Tasted by dlduchon on 8/5/2014 & rated 85 points: Nice heavy handed white. I enjoyed most about it that it is not Chardonnay. Some real Rhone characteritics. (2731 views) | | Tasted by jonahfactor on 8/1/2014 & rated 91 points: (B-Day Dinner with M and H) Delicious. Feared this might be over the hill, but time in the cellar has served this offering (our only bottle of this vintage) well. Golden yellow with thick, striking legs. Nutty marzipan that traverses from bouquet to palate to finish, augmented by orange blossoms, lemon cream and crushed stone. Full bodied with a 30-second finish that begs for another sip. Larry, Tegan and company should make more white wines. (2049 views) | | Tasted by biegs on 5/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Very much enjoyed this wine, nice finish. Enjoy the blend of Rousanne and Grenache. (2248 views) | | Tasted by BigSchmove on 1/2/2014 & rated 91 points: one of my fav chards oak and butter nice make up to me... (2215 views) | | Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 11/10/2013 & rated 89 points: Waxy balanced but somewhat muted (1669 views) | | Tasted by Sennma on 8/31/2013: This wine is a mess...hot and alcoholic bathed in oak. Devoid of any structure. (1953 views) | | Tasted by btock on 7/9/2013 & rated 83 points: This was not in good shape. Muted nose, heavier in the glass and palate, no expression. I have not enjoyed the White Coats of late and think this will be my last. Too disjointed. Like the idea of roussane/marsanne but this one isn't working for me. (1838 views) | | Tasted by cwiebe on 5/11/2013 & rated 82 points: There was a hint of some tropical fruits in this wine, but they were hidden under the plank of wood that someone inserted in this bottle. You could have built a bridge with the amount of oak in this wine. Given the maker, I find this seriously disappointing. (2044 views) | | Tasted by guitarguy on 5/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Complex, waxy, baked notes. Very good. (1720 views) | | Tasted by markydecker on 3/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Consistent with previous note. Nice wine. (1924 views) | | Tasted by Growler69 on 1/30/2013 & rated 90 points: Always a delight! Too bad there isn't more... (1933 views) | | Tasted by markydecker on 12/30/2012 & rated 90 points: Well constructed Rhone white. Peaches, honey and flowers, good acidity, nice starter wine for the evening with crab dip. I'll have more please! (1992 views) | | Tasted by DaninClearwater on 11/1/2012 & rated 93 points: Enjoyed with stone crabs good pairing very nice wine (2079 views) | | Tasted by BigSchmove on 9/30/2012 & rated 94 points: VERY enjoyable White set of grapes. smooth. it was like a coating going over the middle of your tong actually enhanced to flavor of the slightly spicy seafood. it was paired well with scallops and schrimp that had a kick. (not much as i'm a whip) but was good after food was gone. Lovely (2303 views) | | Tasted by JOJ on 9/9/2012 & rated 93 points: A damn fine wine. Luscious nose of melon, peaches, green apple and nutmeg. Mouthfilling flavors of yeasty green apple and white peach, counterbalanced by a racy streak of acidity. Perfect for outdoor movie night at the park. (2356 views) | | Tasted by MillerRoad on 8/24/2012: This year was one of my favorites. Great Summer White. More complexity than normal. (2237 views) | | Tasted by Matt T on 7/22/2012 & rated 90 points: Full bodied with notes of oak, nuts, and a long finish. (2215 views) | | Tasted by Drankthewholebottle on 6/24/2012: Paired very well with seafood dinner. I thought it was very tasty for a white. I love Fullpour's comment. (2240 views) | | Tasted by BigSchmove on 6/2/2012 & rated 91 points: Had smoke oak and buttery. Was very smooth no tartness I really enjoyed this bottle (2315 views) | | Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 5/27/2012: 13.9% ABV. Light gold in the glass. Somewhat nutty sweet marzipan nose with a light herb note. Medium full bodied and a bit undistinguished on the palate. What oak treatment does this get? Not really pushing my buttons. | Turley Producer websiteTurley The White CoatThe White Coat (named for Larry’s past career as an Emergency Room physician) is composed of white Rhône grapes from three of our Estate vineyards across California. The rich, textured Roussanne from Rattlesnake Ridge on Howell Mountain in Napa is moderated by acidity and structure provided by the Grenache Blanc grown in the calcareous soils of the Pesenti Vineyard in Paso Robles. Finally, the blend is rounded out with a touch of refreshing, mineral Vermentino (also known as Rolle) from the granitic and quartz-laden Cobb Vineyard in Amador. The result is an exceptional, dynamic white wine that is truly California.
Turley's signature white blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Roussanne, all white Rhône grapes. Ripe yellow fruits, candied lemon peel, spiced apple, cantaloupe, honeysuckle, and sun-warmed white stone. A quintessential winter white wine; rich and luscious yet fresh and well-proportioned. Would be exquisite with scallops or spiny lobster, drinking well now at 40°-50°F.White Rhone BlendA white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
