Tasted by TMcKennaCellar on 1/1/2023: 2004 Vintage drank on Jan 1 2023 (19 years old). OMG....I thought I held this wine too long and the cork broke when I opened it. But... It delivered. Very smooth...velvety goodness. Black cherry, oak, jam, syrup. So good! (730 views)

Tasted by D'Yquembe Mutumbo on 6/9/2022 & rated 94 points: A crowd pleaser, this was not over the hill at all; rather ready to go. PnP this had lovely aromas of stewed berries, raw tobacco, cedar, and a flower garden. Absolutely perfect with brisket. (1150 views)
Tasted by Vtdarush on 11/25/2021 & rated 95 points: Perfectly integrated tannins with just a touch of sweetness coming from the edge. Decanted for 3 hours from a magnum. (1445 views)
Tasted by web_creator on 10/3/2021 flawed bottle: So I am reading all of these recent notes and have to offer a different view. Like the writer who decanted for 20 minutes, I found that it went a long way to improve this wine, but it was still pretty over the hill. Plus it definitely had a nasty nose that made it hard to appreciate the good qualities that remained. The nose mostly off gassed (which is the nicest thong you can say about it) after 30-40 minutes in the decanter including some vigorous aeration.

It tasted acceptably after that, although raisiny and well over the hill. This wine has been in a 55° temp controlled cellar since it was purchased directly from Darioush. I have been through a lot of D over the years and am a big fan, but if you have 2004 in your cellar, it is probably time to “open that bottle” while it is still at least somewhat drinkable.  Tasted by Kenney Wines on 11/26/2020 & rated 97 points: Deep purple coated the glass so nicely it almost didn’t generate legs. Delicious from the opening sip. Opened broadly. Leather, courrant. Tiny touch of fruit. (1266 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 6/29/2020: -- decanted 20 min. before initial taste --
-- tasted non-blind over 2 hours --

NOSE: expressive; aged, high-toned Cabernet Sauvignon Nose; hint of stony mineral.

BODY: medium-full bodied.

TASTE: plenty of oak --- chocolate & cedar; slightly warm (alc.); still minimal fine, drying tannins present dark-fruited; obviously big/CA, but not bad, but nonetheless glad to have it out of the cellar now. Drink Now and over the near term. (1471 views)
Tasted by daved on 4/20/2020 & rated 95 points: This exceeded my wildest expectations. Peaking now! Better than bottles costing triple this one. (1328 views)

Tasted by Magnum PI on 11/5/2016 & rated 91 points: Brookie and I and our friends Jackie and Antonio drank this bottle with hamburgers (Brookie and I had vege burgers,) a cheese plate, and Cheetos. Decanted for maybe 30 minutes before drinking. The wine continued to open.

The wine is in it's prime drinking window and probably has a few more years before it begins to decline. Classic cabernet notes, well balanced, rounded, delicious without being overly extracted. I detected root beer on the nose, dark fruit and kirsch mid palate, Antonio kept mentioning pepper, which nobody else got . . . currents.

This is a delicious wine. The 91 point score is the average between the 90 points Antonio gave it and the 92 points I gave it. In my early wine drinking days I was mostly a Napa cab guy, and I drank a lot of '04's. This is a nice bottle of wine . . . I think I paid $75 for it many years ago. I'm not sure the quality justifies the price of the current release, which is $100.

I will say that this bottle has a silky, pleasing finish, which could be longer, but overall it is well done. This is a nice bottle, probably not worth the price tag, compared to other Napa cabs. In my opinion, the following wines are better for the same or less money: Peter Franus, Larkmead, Freemark Abbey Bosche, (Arnot Roberts in Sonoma), Anderson Cohn Valley.

Having had numerous bottles from numerous vintages, my opinion of Darioush wines in general is that they have a certain amount of "Napa elegance" and balance early on, and generally hit their peak in 4-5 years, but do not benefit from aging much beyond that. The fruit is generally pure and there are no edges, and everything is in balance. Nice bottle from a classic Napa vintage. (3272 views)
Tasted by bryon m on 8/10/2016 & rated 95 points: Fantastic wine. Deep inky color, rich mouth feel. Lots of flavor from Start to finish. 12 years old could go 10 more (537 views)
Tasted by PDX-S on 6/1/2016: Still lush and primary with dark fruits and tobacco with the slightest whiff of menthol in the background. Very fruity and brooding without being too strident on day one. Day two brings a reductive nose and some overall mellowing of the palate. This wine really seems to be only at the outset of a nice drinking window. It has a very supple mouthfeel, soft tannins and enough acid to carry the day, but the tertiary flavors are just beginning to peak out. Drink if you like lush and rich, hold for more development.  Tasted by brucerob on 5/26/2016 & rated 95 points: This wine is in a perfect drinking window - lovely balance of fruit acidity and tannins. Sorry only one left. Would not wait much longer (3098 views)

Tasted by Blacksmith450 on 6/18/2015 & rated 91 points: Nez sur le fruit rouge et chocolat. Puissant, finale suave. (3430 views)
Tasted by Sharmajd on 2/28/2015 & rated 93 points: Opened along with a '90 Chambert-Marbuzet and a '95 Leoville Las Cases. The Darioush was the WOTN. It had amazing aromatics and palate impression. The fruit was very much intact with great dark fruit texture and a medium to long finish. (2951 views)
Tasted by BATWine on 2/7/2015 & rated 93 points: Still so much fruit. Can hold for a few more years (2599 views)
Tasted by KeithSurg on 12/8/2014 flawed bottle: Cork in good condition, and stored with the '03 tasted alongside (which was great). This was cooked and musty. (2880 views)
Tasted by Bill Bucklew on 11/2/2014 & rated 91 points: Double decanted for three hours, tasted blind initially, Ripe big nose, black fruit, medium body, medium acidity, more red fruit on the palate, also a spicy element, decent balance finish, a bit warm. This is in a great spot, what a surprise. (2743 views)
Tasted by JB&KB on 7/26/2014 & rated 92 points: Cinnamon raison toast. Emphasis on the raison especially on the back of the tongue. Worked with filet mignon just fine. (2704 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
