Tasted by shifter on 3/9/2024: Grand Cru White Burgundy Fest: Small taste. From mag. Tasted younger and fresher. (408 views)
Tasted by Mr.Fossan on 12/27/2023 & rated 94 points: Bought it on release and kept it in my cellar.

Bubbles still present and flies around in the beautiful golden liquid!

Fantastic nose, still feels pretty fresh with nuts, almonds, popcorn, butter, red apples and warm fresh bread! Wow!

Palet just as fantastic with the bubbles tickeling my tongue a little, the nuts, warm fresh baked bread with a little butter on it, ripe red apples and a very nice slight bitterness on the finish!

This is a wow wine in 🎯!! So complex and nice! (505 views)
Tasted by Mchiarot on 12/3/2023 & rated 93 points: faint bubbles, but pure nutty elegance. If you are a fan of old champagnes, this will deliver for you. (556 views)
Tasted by Lethemgo on 11/18/2023 & rated 94 points: Small pop. Golden straw color not so evolved for a 24 years old champagne. Explosive nose of buttered walnut evolving with something like current jelly. Light bubbles going out leaving to taste such a great wine. Mouthfilling and long aftertaste. Great wine surely ready but I don’t have enough experience to judge the future. (582 views)
Tasted by lesz on 10/23/2023 & rated 95 points: very delicious. one of 8 bottles (751 views)
Tasted by VINNICK on 9/11/2023 & rated 96 points: I would consider myself a novice Champagne drinker. That said, aside from a 1979 Krug, this was the best bottle of Champagne I have had. Had in 750ML format which is showing its age with tons of vivacity and nuttiness. Just great wine! (699 views)
Tasted by Comte Flaneur on 10/20/2022 & rated 93 points: This was a delightful sharpener for our La Mission vertical dinner. Quite light and quaffable for a Winston, but beautifully balanced, rich, and light in its feet. In a really good place now (1474 views)
Tasted by Imbibo on 8/2/2022 & rated 96 points: Still tasted remarkably fresh, nose a little 'farmyardy' to begin with but opened up. Incredible rich and multi-layered cut through fatty pork in risotto really well. (1792 views)
Tasted by ZionWino on 7/9/2022 & rated 95 points: This was a beautifully mature Champagne. Golden color; hazelnut, apples, baked bread, tangerine peel, and almond; persistent bead; medium acidity; and a lovely, lingering finish. Developed some sherry notes with more time. We tasted over 2-3 hours. Definitely past peak, but still very compelling and delicious. Wonderful with food. (1674 views)
Tasted by psyrah on 1/1/2022 & rated 91 points: tasted fine, but almost no bubbles. Had for NYE. (2237 views)
Tasted by kingkanu on 10/30/2021: In a great spot, mature and rich but still fresh and light on its feet, some gingerbread as it fans out on the finish, a lovely bottle (2398 views)
Tasted by asparagus on 9/9/2021 & rated 93 points: This bottle today screamed of red apples and toast. Not as nuanced or complex or as earth shattering as previous bottles, but a great wine regardless. (1898 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 9/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Double Birthday dinner at an old wine-trade friend's house. I did the wine - he the food! Note to follow (1516 views)
Tasted by KyraWilliamsFitness on 7/5/2021 & rated 96 points: Thick, buttery and yeasty like brioche; holds up with food (1704 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 5/16/2021 & rated 90 points: The 99 Winston Churchill is yeasty and considerably evolved (In general Winston Churchill ages faster than many other Prestige Cuvees). Crème caramel, gingerbread, and red berries. Complex and textured with smoky oxidative Pinot fruits. A Champagne to have with food. Drink now – 2024. (90/100) (2035 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 3/10/2021 & rated 93 points: Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill 1999.
93-94p (1572 views)
Tasted by osordal on 10/11/2020 & rated 95 points: Straw yellow. Hedonistic wine with a striking nerve, red Apples, some dried White fruits and beautiful spicenotes. Creamy mousse, harmonic and intense. Still vibrant acid and with creamy mouthfeel. Like a great white burg (Puligny). Probably at its peak. I cant see a better time to drink it. A stunning wine with higher acid than I would expect from the vintage. (1824 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 9/16/2020 & rated 94 points: Last of a three bottle lot picked up at auction and enjoyed as an Anniversary celebration. Definitely a wine to seek out and now we understand why Winston needed a couple of bottles a day to carry him through the war. Kudos to him for crafting this 70% Pinot Noir/30% Chardonnay blend.
Opened and allowed to slo-ox for 5 minutes as we found this allows this wine (like any other) to open. Very appealing aromas of red fruit, apple and brioche. These all carried over to the medium bodied palate along with touches of caramel and honey. The mousse is wonderfully fine and creamy yielding a superb mouthfeel. The acidity is balancing, or possibly a touch too low, but the finish seems to go on forever. (1792 views)
Tasted by Matt T on 8/30/2020 & rated 95 points: Excellent. Acid on this was high on the front end. Evolved quickly in the glass with notes of honey, cream, and caramel. Long, elegant finish. Drink or hold. (1714 views)
Tasted by ovenmitt on 6/28/2020: This bottle seemed a little off... somewhat flaccid; lacking energy and inspiration. The 99 Crystal that we drank after killed it. Maybe Wright to see if last bottles evolve in a good way. (2045 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 6/21/2020 & rated 95 points: Drinking the 2nd bottle of my case to celebrate mid-sommer. I am upping my prior score by a point. This is developing very well. Brioche, apple, caramel and a bit of nuttiness. Great mouthfeel. I will save my next bottle till New Years Eve. This wine is well worth the wait. (2017 views)
Tasted by asparagus on 5/23/2020 & rated 93 points: such a vinous, pinot centric champagne. consistent with previous notes though now it has an additional red apple element to it. (2026 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 1/15/2020 & rated 95 points: 1999 Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill, 2007 Vergari Pinot Noir (Flemings, Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of brioche, Delicious apple, Chinese apple, hazelnut, caramel, and slate, lovely mousse quickly formed from very fine bubbles, light gold/straw color in the glass, same on the palate, big body, mouth filling fruit, good acid, elegant, showed better and better throughout the 3 hour dinned, good acid, at peak but will hold another 10 years, paired with crabmeat and scallops which made a wonderful tasting/gourmet experience, and a long, flavorful finish and aftertaste. Photo uploaded. (2552 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 12/31/2019 & rated 94 points: NYEve with Steve & Lucie (At our place, then Knickerbocker): PnP, chilled, at the restaurant (with corkage). An excellent way to ring in the new year. Another excellent bottle of this fine champagne.
The second glass seemed better than the first - maybe it can benefit from a few minutes of air up front. Faint hints of pinot on the nose. Definite pinot on the palate (the blend is 70% PN + 30% Chd), along with some apple, and only a touch of brioche. The mousse is wonderfully fine and creamy yielding a superb mouthfeel. The acidity is balancing (or possibly a touch too low). Not sure about the drink window, and this bottle showed a bit more age than our bottle one year ago, so drink up. (2318 views)
Tasted by dagij on 12/26/2019 & rated 93 points: Straw colour, very fine mousse, persistent in the glass (drunk from Riedel burgundy glasses). Medium intense nose dominated by brioche, red apples, hazelnuts, and a touch of honey. Full bodied, caressing mousse, sweet fruit like red/yellow apples and a honey note almost reminscent of a mature DP. Beautiful balance, very fine acidity, wonderful length. Impressive champagne, well worth the price. (2117 views)

Pol Roger

Producer website
Pol Roger is one of the few remaining family-owned grande marque Champagne houses. Their grande marque status was guaranteed at the turn of the century when about 20 producers banded together
to establish exacting quality controls for Champagne. The annual production at Pol Roger - less than 120,000 cases - is found in the best restaurants of France, England, and the USA, and is exported to
over 30 countries. Pol Roger also was the Champagne of choice of British dignitary Sir Winston Churchill, who once said of Champagne, "...In victory I deserve it, and in defeat I need it!".

Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill

Winemaker Notes:
Champagne Pol Roger created their Prestige Cuvée in homage to Sir Winston Churchill mindful of the qualities that he sought in his champagne: robustness, a full-bodied character and relative maturity.
The exact blend is a closely guarded family secret but it is undeniable that the composition would meet with the approval of the man to whom it is dedicated: “My tastes are simple, I am easily satisfied
with the best”. Pinot Noir predominates, providing structure, breadth and robustness whilst Chardonnay contributes elegance, finesse and subtlety. Composed exclusively of grapes sourced from Grand Cru
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards which were already under vine during Churchill’s lifetime, “Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill” is only made in the very best vintages and is always released later than the
other vintage dated Champagnes from Pol Roger, marking Churchill’s appreciation for older wines.

Champagne Blend

"Champagne blend" is a classic grape blend that typically includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier in any proportions.

However, this blend can also include Arbane, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), Petit Meslier and/or Pinot Blanc as well.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
