Tasted by JayAAllen on 12/25/2023 & rated 91 points: Drinking perfectly (281 views)
Tasted by lolo66 on 3/16/2023 & rated 92 points: this is excellent and drinking at its peak. rich, brambly red berried fruit with sweet and structured tannins. (758 views)
Tasted by RichEB1 on 1/8/2023 & rated 93 points: So I, admittedly, was not bullish on most of the 2011 Bedrocks and drank through most of them much earlier than I would most vintages. I just didn't think there was any upside to most offerings, with the Bedrock/Bedrock being the one exception. That said....I'm pretty happy that I hung on to a few of these because this was great! Took a minute to open up (was a bit lean/ungiving at pnp) but it really fleshed out into a beautiful medium+ bodied mouthful of citrus-tinged purple fruits with a bit of a savory, tannic finish. Very structured and not quite as fruit forward as other vintages....but im getting that crazy orange-peel note that I love from this Vineyard more strongly than I can recall from any other year (LOVING that!). If the fruit can hang on, this should have a very long and pleasurable life ahead of it. Great stuff @bedrockmorgan and @underthewirewine ! (1199 views)
Tasted by locovino on 6/27/2022 & rated 93 points: Loved this! Crunchy cranberries and cherries with perfect balance of acidity and tannin. (1249 views)
Tasted by dnddrinkwine on 4/8/2022: Pnp, consumed with friends so it went very quickly. This was more advanced than I would have expected. It was nice and drank well with the tannins fully resolved but wish it had more fruit left. (1240 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 11/15/2021 & rated 90 points: This has turned out to be quite cellar worthy but I find the fruit a little less appealing now than a year ago: plum and cassis vs the blackberry and fruit de bois of its youth. Storage conditions may be a factor. I took this out of limited wine fridge storage a year ago. (1537 views)
Tasted by chadrich on 11/15/2020 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby with light translucency. White pepper, rosemary and bramble fruit nose. Silky palate of red fruits, light caramel and a hint of vanilla. Long integrated finish with smooth tannins. Beautiful now and probably has 5 years to go. (1782 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 8/21/2020 & rated 90 points: PnD let air for 2hrs.

Restrained claret style Zin Blend. Very tasty but lacked the expected wow factor. The colour did not indicate a fading wine but if I had anymore I would be drinking up before the fruit fades even more. (2055 views)
Tasted by drdebs on 7/25/2020 & rated 95 points: One of the finest reds I've ever had. Just exceptional in every way and drinking perfectly in its ninth year. Blackberry, boysenberry, and lovely touches of roasted meat and spice. Fresh herbs and licorice in the finish. Silky tannins. Will treasure my last bottle. What a journey for this wine. It started strong but just gets better. (1926 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 3/6/2020 & rated 91 points: the plummy fruit is maturing well with some complexity; well balanced; less acidity than i prefer; medium length
better on day two; some eucalyptus and a fine acidity appear. (2367 views)
Tasted by xwine on 10/27/2019: Pretty good, a bit hot, didn't bowl me over. A good drink, without any fireworks. (2449 views)
Tasted by PSUSteve on 8/30/2019: No formal notes. Very fruity on PnP but very tight. Putting through an aerator helped but this needs time in a decanter. (2132 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 6/23/2019 & rated 92 points: 2011-- Complex, spicy Côte Rotie nose, dark fruits, mint, and licorice, dried cherry and fig, cocoa, lightly oaked. Good acidity in the mouth with a Big Bang, expanding intensity effect, medium long finish, a bit hot and baked at the end. Tannins are Bordeaux-like but moderate and tamed. I did not decant but recommend decanting for an hour at least. 92-93

2012 -- This is almost identical in profile to the 2011 but gets there more effortlessly. The dark berry, fruity, minty aromas are fresher. Easygoing and generous with a Napa Cab sensuality to it. Slightly more forward and minty, smoother, and weightier in the mouth, with a nice, refined dark chocolate finish. Double decanted. 94

2014 -- This needs another one to four years and was like drinking a great Syrah or Cab too early. The tannins are rich with a pronounced edge (but not fierce by any means). Bold notes of cedar, blackberry, cassis and licorice, with clove and cardamom. Tremendous sense of spice, substance, and extract, integrated well enough, albeit still en route to a more elegant expression. Double decanted 4 hours. 92-95

2016 -- One can taste the refined and complex 2011 lurking inside this lively animal, bursting with rich aromas and flavors. Like the 2014 there is loads of fruit and spice, but it already seems better integrated than the 2014. Still wait a few years. Double decanted 4 hours. 93-94

The 2012, 2014, and 2016 all seem built for 10 years. The 2011 seems in a peak drinking window now. (2377 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 4/7/2019 & rated 91 points: Decanted 30 minutes. I was pleased that this wine was not jammy or huge, which a lot of red Bedrock's have been for me. I'm not sure if it's the age or the vintage, but there was more minerality to this. Having said that, to me, this still doesn't compare to Carlisle, which have more interesting fruit and depth. (2425 views)
Tasted by David_T on 4/7/2019 & rated 90 points: No flaws but far simpler than other vintages from this vineyard. Red fruit and earth, medium integrated acid/tannins. Drink now. (2081 views)
Tasted by btock on 1/4/2019 & rated 94 points: This was a wow bottle, caught it in such a great window. Depth and complexity, aroma kept getting better through the night. Deep scarlet coloring, very nice balance between fruit and other earthy notes. Half the bottle with red sauce Italian, and half the bottle sipped alongside good dark chocolate. Both worked, with the edge going to the savory dish. A standout among '11 zin-based wines I've opened. Think this was my last '11 in the cellar and what a way to finish. Very engaging, "intellectual". Only thing similar I can think of is some of the early Rossi Ranch bottlings from Carlisle that had the distinctive garrique/savory notes. The Bedrock was more subtle than that, and I really liked how that enhanced the red fruit elements of the wine. Excellent! (2562 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 12/18/2018: Drunk tonight in celebration of the birthday of a 7 year old, this wine showed echoes of Ridge Geyserville: rich, tarry, earthy, with plummy fruit and a sense of balance. The tannins are soft but the wine shows no sign of decline yet. (2380 views)
Tasted by Jahull03 on 11/25/2018: Drank in the vineyard (as one should). This one is starting to show its age, in a good way. Has come together - all the (many) threads of texture and flavor weaving into something seamless. Medium weight, balanced, still get the orange oil, lavender, tobacco notes I’m used to with this, but all much more “together”. (2091 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 11/9/2018 & rated 91 points: Excellent (2255 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 9/30/2018 & rated 88 points: Decanted 30 minutes. lots of fruit and well balanced, low tannins, but not a long finish. (2242 views)
Tasted by cobbpa on 9/1/2018 & rated 88 points: Gave this several hours of bottle air. Nice dark fruits around a vanilla core, occasional hints of spice, full bodied with medium acid & tannins make it fairly easy to drink. Appears in balance, but without structure to make me think it will improve--probably good for several years though. (2370 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 8/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Drinking very well now and paired well with pizza. Raspberries, cherries, blackberries, licorice, spice, and hints of floral. Medium to full bodied wine with nice structure and a long smooth finish. (1834 views)
Tasted by Castle Peak on 8/16/2018 & rated 88 points: Good, but not great. Big and is suited to pair with a big pile of barbecued ribs. (1802 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/14/2018 & rated 94 points: The nose on the 2011 Heritage is amazingly layered and deep, showing a dusting of brown spices lifted by sweet violet pastilles, followed by dried black cherry, crushed blackberry, spiced orange, clove, hints of mint, rosemary and sage. On the palate, I found silky textures, with medium-bodied weight, as notes of spiced citrus, sour cherry, and spice washed across the senses, carried by zesty acidity. The finish was medium-long and spicy, with hints of blackberry and sweet herbs lingering. I went in expecting a big, large-scaled wine, but I found a wine that’s big on personality instead. (2418 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 7/29/2018 & rated 91 points: decanted 30 min. Bright purple with Ruby on edges. Nose of bramble, ripe raspberries, damp earth. Medium-body nice acidity and light & integrated tannins, boysenberry, harmonious. close eyes and you imagine fresh dark berries and grapes. Long Finish. Drink now with 2-4 years left. (1912 views)

2011 Bedrock Wine Co. The Bedrock Heritage

Winemaker Comments: The grand poobah! The 2011 Bedrock Heritage Wine comes from vines planted 123 years ago at my family’s vineyard in Sonoma Valley. It is a field-blend of 22 different varieties. Dominated by Zinfandel the remaining 40% of the wine is Carignane, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Syrah, Tempranillo, Trousseau, Mission, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and many others. Bedrock lies in the alluvial wash of the famed Monte Rosso Vineyard and is the only vineyard on the valley floor to share the same Red Hill Clay Loam soils that pour downward from the west slopes of Mount Veeder. The 2011 is dominated by fragrant red fruits, spices, and a dollop of orange oil. Like all the Sonoma Valley offerings from 2011 the wine is nervy and young and will need a few years to loosen its sinewy limbs and limber up.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
