Tasted by PMJak11 on 5/18/2024 & rated 96 points: This was awesome! Very impressed!

1hr+ decant. Dark red color. Dark fruit on the nose with subtle cedar. Classic Napa sweetness on the palate with ample candied fruit, bramble, and sneaky complexity. Great depth and long finish. (88 views)
Tasted by Bluethunder on 4/13/2024 & rated 93 points: PnP and drank over several hours. Medium bodied, well balanced with lots and dark lush fruit, soft tannins. (579 views)
Tasted by One Percenter on 2/17/2024 & rated 95 points: Sadly, our last one. Still has several years left, but it is singing now. Fruit on the front and a medium length finish on the back. Smooth and delicious! (848 views)
Tasted by kandrfairview on 1/19/2024 & rated 94 points: Aging very well (948 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 12/17/2023 & rated 95 points: At a "Cabernet from around the world night" with my wine group, at a NYC Steakhouse. We had in order, 2010 Château Saint-Pierre, 2012 O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, 2013 Figgins Estate Red Wine, and the 2018 Montepeloso Gabbro Toscana IGT. All were opened, but not decanted for at least 45 minutes before pouring. 7 of us had the O'Shaughnessy as their favorite with one going with the Saint-Pierre. I think if all of us gave the wines numerical scores, everyone's numbers would have been between 96 and 91. An outstanding tasting! This was my favorite. We could have it with or without food. Long finish, dark color, full bodied. Normally around 10 years past the vintage, I prefer O'Shaughnessy's Mt. Veeder to their Howell Mountain. But this bottle was amazing and I can't imagine the Mt. Veeder being better than this, at this age point. I might even be shorting this a point! (1136 views)
Tasted by Mdubnik on 11/27/2023 & rated 91 points: A little bit "flat". Not a bad bottle; not corked. Decanted and drank over three hours. Never really rose to the potential I was expecting, based on drinking multiple other vintages from O'S on HM. Won't shy away from this in the future in hopes I had a bottle that was simply "off". (1187 views)
Tasted by Eagle13 on 11/22/2023 & rated 93 points: Drinking really well right now at the 11 yr mark. Still a bit of tannins left but mostly smoothed out. (1015 views)
Tasted by CRL Stc on 11/21/2023 & rated 94 points: Decanted 90 minutes and was well rewarded. At a beautiful place now and cork in good shape. Long finish. This bottle has several more years. (914 views)
Tasted by W2WineGuy on 10/28/2023 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour in restaurant, but a definite wow right from the bottle. Fantastic wine, could only imagine if it had a proper airing out. (963 views)
Tasted by doug374 on 7/23/2023 & rated 95 points: Great expressive fruit from start to finish. A vibrant set of deep flavors including blackberry, cassis, chocolate and light leather. Tannins hold it together but are not interfering with the fruits. Paired very well with medium rare meat. (1254 views)
Tasted by pvewino on 7/4/2023 & rated 95 points: Truly amazing wine. Lots of sediment, so pour carefully. Really opened up 30 - 60 minutes in. Deep, dark and brooding. Can't go wrong with this one. (1079 views)
Tasted by KeepHer on 6/18/2023: Color : bit worn. Nice legs still.

Nose : much fruit

Palate : Test pour Stunna IYKYK. Fruit dominant vintage confirmed. Black and red currants. 2012 was so fruity even the sweet and sourness tried to outdo each other.

Day 2 (vacu-vin): The oak came into focus. went back and forth between gross and pretty gorgeous. When it was bad it was wet oak but moldy (?). When it was good savory clove took center stage budding fruit.

Day 3 (vacu-vin) : fruit and oak melded as one. Matte feels.

There were highlights but it lacked purity.

The 2013's taste better but that's another note. (1112 views)
Tasted by moega on 5/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Excellent wine. On initial open, a little tight and was much better paired with cheese than on its own. (1248 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 4/18/2023 & rated 96 points: Excellent wine that’s a solid QPR @ $80. Has aged well and is pure velvet with integrated tannins, fruit and secondary nuances. Showing some age but still full. (1517 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 4/5/2023: Quite good, victim of a wine tasting. (1345 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 4/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Our last two bottles of the 2012 suggest, to my palate at least, that this wine is now just past peak. The tannins, which are so well managed on these O’Shaughnessy mountain cabs that they’re surprisingly enjoyable young, are mostly resolved at this point. As such, they don’t seem to have enough oomph to fully stand up to the fruit that still remains 11 years post-vintage. That said, it was still a lovely wine to share before dinner. (1257 views)
Tasted by pvewino on 3/25/2023 & rated 95 points: Incredible wine. Amazingly full bodied with a long finish. The nose will keep you coming back for more. Drinking exceptionally well right now after a 30 - 60 minute pause to let it breathe. No need to wait any longer on this one. (1126 views)
Tasted by CRL Stc on 2/25/2023 & rated 94 points: Awesome wine. Needs at least an hour decant. (1212 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 1/11/2023 & rated 93 points: Drinking well but age isn’t going to help it. Drink up! (1601 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 11/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Very good, but a touch behind previous bottles. (1381 views)
Tasted by WineGuyX on 8/31/2022: This bears no resemblance to (most) other's reviews on here. Decanted for 2 hours. This is harsh, wood (cedar)-dominated with abrasive tannin and shrill acidity. At 10 I didn't expect this to be fully mature, but I did expect more generosity than this. No hint of TCA, Brettanomyces nor oxidation but perhaps this is an off bottle? That said, it smells great! Loads of creme de cassis, blueberry and wild flowers. NR

At 5 hours decanted: This is opening SLIGHTLY. It's only medium-bodied at best and given the fact it has so little fruit or richness on the palate, I wouldn't expect this to come into balance with additional aging (if a representative sample), but what have you got to lose? (1929 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 8/25/2022 & rated 94 points: Drinking great but definitely showing maturity. This is where I enjoy my Napa cabs. That Howell mountain terroir is really showing with soft supple purple fruit. (1870 views)
Tasted by Geaux Tigers on 7/17/2022 & rated 91 points: Into a decanter as I was worried about sediment (wrong worry as it turns out) and drank over 2 hrs with dinner. Lovely texture and mouthfeel with minor bricking on the edges. Muted at open, got a little better with air, but frankly this was disappointing at 10 yrs old. All the notes were there they just couldn’t come together to be good. O’Shaughnessy continues to be a conundrum for me in terms of open/closed and when to decant/no decant. Every time I think a decant is needed, they’re ready on open and when I think they should to be good to go with minimal air, I get tonite where a longer decant was needed. (2559 views)
Tasted by bluedog on 7/17/2022 & rated 96 points: This was absolutely stellar. In its sweet place now. Enjoy. (1885 views)
Tasted by Theodore S Butts on 7/10/2022 & rated 94 points: Red fruits, bramble and some baking spices on the nose. Great deep ruby with a fair amount of sediment requiring decanting.
Fruit/acid/tannins are already nicely integrated. Medium long finish.
This is just a lovely, lovely wine. HM is always a win with a few years of age. (1893 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
