Tasted by dlduchon on 7/2/2023 & rated 90 points: Scrumptious Port with a great QPR. Polished with great balance and intensity. (876 views)
Tasted by ShaneTierney on 4/23/2022 & rated 91 points: Just so nice right off the bat. No decant, no sediment. 4x the price isn't 4x as good. Starting to second guess my purchasing. (1376 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 11/27/2021 & rated 90 points: Half-bottle purchased at Lisbon airport. Nice dark ruby red, just barely see-through. Timid nose upon opening; touch of red and black fruit and spice/violets. On the palate, the attack is frank, luscious, with nice sweet dark fruit preceding quite present slightly rough tannin. A good length and a touch of alcohol on the finish. This is good, but I can't currently say that it is better than the Graham's 2015 LBV. If anything, I'd say the extraction on this is higher, the tannin quite a bit firmer, but then the firm tannin is sort of the house style. A very good filtered LBV but not at all comparable to the flight of 5 Taylor vintages I tasted 10 or so days ago. But then it isn't supposed to be.
89-90 or so. (1561 views)
Tasted by 559Cheers on 10/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Vibrant honey. Never had a late harvest port. Liked it very much. (1530 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 8/18/2021 & rated 91 points: I am more of a Tawny fan, but loved this LBV. This is the best LBV I have had and I preferred it over many “vintage” ports. A great wine and fun to drink. (1684 views)
Tasted by caspernick on 5/12/2021 & rated 89 points: The fourth wine to taste this week for my course is this fortified Portuguese. I love Port btw so this was not a hard task. It is a deep shade of purple and opaque, as can be expected. The nose is of medium intensity with notes of raisins and stewed plum. Secondary notes of dark chocolate, and tertiary notes of walnut were present. On the palate there were pronounced flavors of raisin and prune. Secondary notes of dark chocolate and espresso with tertiary hints of walnut in a tannic cloak with medium acidity. This wine was off-dry to me and had a decent mid length finish. Moxie tasted as well and we both caught on to the 20% alcohol right on the first whiff yet I did not sense it on the palate except to say this wine is full bodied as a result. I am looking forward to some blue cheese and crackers to go with this beauty. Like I said, I love me some Port and this one is good. It gets 89 points from me. At $24, it's a decent bottle to have around if you like the style- 4 stars.

Tasted by chbeaumont on 5/2/2021 & rated 84 points: Decent enough. Nothing special. (1147 views)
Tasted by UKHunt on 12/26/2020 & rated 95 points: Really nice. Good with stilton as usual. (870 views)
Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 12/24/2020 & rated 88 points: On the fruity side, plenty of sweet red berries. It was best on day 1, later on, start loosing the freshness of all those fruits. Cockburn LBV was better offering at same price. (767 views)
 Tasted by forceberry on 11/28/2020 & rated 85 points: 20% alcohol, 100 g/l residual sugar, 3,9 g/l acidity.

Youthful, very slightly translucent and quite intense blackish-red color. Quite rich but also somewhat linear nose with lots of ripe dark fruits and boysenberry jam and some alcohol with finer nuances of licorice, perfumed floral tones, a little bit of sun-baked rocks and a hint of powdered salty liquorice in the background. The wine is sweet, rich and rather hot on the palate with a full body and rather bold flavors of boysenberry marmalade and blackberry jam, some overripe black cherries, light licorice tones, a little bit of dried figs, a hint of boozy alcohol and a touch of ripe bilberry. The acidity feels medium-to-moderately high, but the tannins come across as super soft and barely perceptible. The finish is long, sweet and rather hot with very soft and mellow tannins and rich flavors of boysenberry jam, some blueberry juice, a little bit of overripe black cherry, light powdered salty liquorice tones, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of peppery spice.

A tasty and decent LBV Port, albeit a very youthful, jammy and fruit-forward effort - I really could've used a bit more sense of structure. Flavor-wise the wine is really nice, but since it is all about lush, sweet fruit and high alcohol with quite little in the way of acidity and nothing on tannins, the overall feel is a bit lopsided, taking a small toll on the balance. This is a good entry-level LBV that works in a pinch, but is more on par with good Ruby ports than with quality LBVs. Priced according to its quality at 10,99€ for a half bottle. (1514 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 10/18/2020 & rated 92 points: Excellent LBV, packed with red fruits, cocoa and spice. I was a bit surprised at the sweetness level, which seemed a bit higher than I would expect for this house. Still... a luscious, round, rich port. (909 views)
Tasted by mysterycooper on 9/25/2020: I'm with Bob regarding hard edged but I liked this.

A winey port. Had a Rhone Syrah like quality, and a bit of chocolate. Not particularly sweet, which I approve of. Don't know if that's 'right' for port, but I'm enjoying it, and at £10 in my local supermarket (down from £15, allegedly) I'll probably get another.

Recommended to anyone who likes Rhoney not too sweet upright young port. Might update this note if air changes it much over the next few days.

Next day, with a little air it does soften and sweeten a little but the unusual savoury northern Rhone quality is still there. Blackberry & cherry, slightly nutty/bitter drying tannin, cherry stone finish.

I'm a fan. Definitely getting another, a £10 no brainer. (800 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 5/25/2020 & rated 86 points: From 75cl, improved (softened) slightly after 2 days, held up well in stoppered bottle for a couple of weeks. Hard-edged, tannic, unsmiling LBV, a bit too macho for my taste. 88P (860 views)
Tasted by trastevere on 4/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Dense and intense, with plums and blackberries, herby notes, cocoa and a long warming spicy finish. (678 views)

Taylor (Fladgate)

Producer Website

Taylor's vintage ports are renowned for their massive structure, concentration of flavour and distinctively masculine style. Taylor's Port is also renowned for being amongst the longest lived of all ports.

Robert Parker: "This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades."

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
