Tasted by DaleW on 10/5/2020: Pear, peach and honey, moderate acids, just a little of a sweet caramel note that makes me wonder about incipient oxidation. Drinking well now, unsure that I would hold. B/B+. (763 views)
Tasted by ersmith on 7/21/2020 & rated 94 points: Poured from a Magnum - Outstanding wine. (746 views)
Tasted by dino_mike on 6/2/2020 & rated 96 points: Legendary! Gold color with flashes of orange. Nose: floral, rich balm, verbena and myrrh even sweet green fig and honeycomb. Flavors: intense quince, asian pear and minerals. Really rich and actually full bodied but the finish stays lively and very long... nothing tart or disjointed at all. Balance is perfect. Drink now, or next 2 years, its really fabulous and everything owning old Stony Chard is meant to be. (771 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 5/5/2020: I noticed one bottle of this seemed a bit darker than others, so popped. Rich honied pear and apple fruit, good acids, some vanilla and lemon curd. Holds up well over evening, my premox worries misplaced. B+/B (778 views)
Tasted by JJKinch on 7/27/2016 & rated 91 points: Fruit (peach), strong floral, slight honey, good acidity. Fruit a little reserved. Floral a bit more dominant. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable. With an hour or so of air, better balance. (1354 views)
 Tasted by beezer6 on 6/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Johnny's Bachelor Weekend.
Dinner at Press. Ordered from the wine list.
Still fresh. Moderate golden color.
Slightly reductive lemon curd. Very good. Ready to rock I'd say. (1352 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 7/10/2015: this is a lovely classic Chardonnay. Bright pear fruit, mineral and honey, orange zest. Full, long, deep. A- (1763 views)
Tasted by dino_mike on 9/2/2010 & rated 92 points: Intense gold color. Lightly fragrant of heliotroppe blossoms and a floral musky note (NOT musty, but musKy, ie: sweetly, thickly fragrant). Great mouthfeel, it's rich and medium bodied and great balance that makes it linger. Has a fresh fruit, honey and floral flavors that are somewhat light but reminiscent of honey and spicy peaches. Nothing about this wine makes you think it's 11 years old. Although at peak, it certainly has at least a couple years to go and the rewards should be greater. This review was based on the 2nd half of the bottle we drank 24 hours later. To be this vibrant, fresh and elegant after 24 hrs verifies it could benifit from 2 more years. (3366 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 1/9/2009 & rated 90 points: APPLES AND CITRUS IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. CRISP MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH. (949 views)
Tasted by lestergibo on 2/29/2008 & rated 92 points: Great balance. Terrific example of a well balanced CA chard designed to go with food. At peak now. (3281 views)
Tasted by dino_mike on 2/11/2008 & rated 90 points: Clear, medium straw color. Nose is light honey, navel orange mixed with minerals or slate. Full bodied white on the palate. Juicy, mineral, flinty notes at the start and ends with honey and a mild but rich melon taste that lasts a long time. Really well balanced, it has a perfect crispness to balance out the round, full mouthfeel. It will be fine for another 3 years and try again. This will be better but could turn even greater. (3024 views)
Tasted by Chidainey on 7/16/2007 & rated 90 points: Pulled from vinotemp and poured with no decant into Riedel winline Chablis glasses. Big deep nose of honey and vanilla with a hint of citrus. Big slightly sweet fruit - very rich with vanilla, honey and caramel and a hint of citrus. Good acid. Rich young oak. Overall a very big, penetrating wine with good balance and depth. Long complex finish. Drinking good now, but with Stony Hill's record I would hold far at least another 3-5 if you want secondary flavors. (2947 views)
Tasted by PaulH on 8/16/2006 & rated 90 points: Medium gold color, medium body with rich mid-palate and restrained use of oak. High acid, but perfectly balanced. No sign of age despite color. (tasted blind) (3156 views)
Tasted by silton on 6/16/2006 & rated 91 points: The faint nose of butterscotch doesn't do justice to this delicious, elegant, and balanced wine, full of clementines and pears and liquid stones, with maybe a little Meyer lemon cheesecake in the background. It also features a moderately long juicy aftertaste that is not too tart and a sumptuous mouthfeel. (2260 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
