Introduction

Great Wine tasting during a 4 hour dinner with the Wine Group.

Flight 1 - Chardonnay Warm Up (12 Notes)

Less expensive Chardonnay with 2 winners.

Flight 2 - Bordeaux and Lamb (7 Notes)

Wine Group has both Bordeaux lovers and those who rarely enjoy it so less expensive and poorly stored bottles showed up.

  • 1979 Château du Tertre 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. A surprising wine with a hint of meat, veggies, and rich fruit on the nose, rich but slightly overripe fruit in the mouth, lots of medium tannins and flavors on the long finish with enough acid and fruit to suggest it will peak in 2 years. First place. Group #3.

  • 1979 Château Palmer 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. Was a rich, fruity but closed nose that opened slowly to musty cedar over two hour dinner, big but sour fruit with medium acid in the mouth, medium flavors and finish with medium tannins-a trifle harsh to me. Fourth place Group #4.

  • 1978 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

1979 Bordeaux 7 reds. The lowest score from me in tasting this wine 5 times over the years, rich, sour, passion fruit combined with asparagus on the nose, big, rich, sour cherry fruit in the mouth, big, long finish and flavors but medium tannins suggest 5 years to its peak. 5th for me, Group #1.
