Introduction
It was good weather out so I stopped in at Weygant for some wines. Most were pretty basic and had good prices but there were some real values in the bunch.
NV Hubert Clavelin Crémant du Jura Brut - Comté 88 Points
France, Jura, Crémant du Jura
nose is buscuity with golden apples. on the palate, this is much different. it shows a tremendous amount of salty, saline notes. lots of seashells and a bit of lemon. very focused and minerally. would go very well with oysters.

the nose on this is really odd. not terrible, if anything it's a fun experience, but not really enjoyable either. olives and underripe almonds on the nose. very zesty with green apple and some minerals.

great value wine here. grassy nose, but there's also green apple and lychee. creamy on the palate, however, which balances out the white peach and green apple flavors. definitely has some lychee nut as well.

didn't like this as much as the 08. fresh and lively on the nose. a bit of bugspray. yellow apple on the palate and some acid on the finish. just not the complexity that i wanted.

the nose on this is really big. paint, lacquer, gummy bears. very strong, pungent even. a lot of people would dislike this nose, but i love it. the palate is plump and juicy, with ripe pineapple and coconut. a big white wine, but a really pleasurable one.

pale copper colored. the nose shows pepper and pennies. it's a really weird rose. lots of pepper and funk, but no fruit whatsoever. not bad, but not enjoyable.

the nose on this is really powerful with herbs, grilled meat and some heat. big and spicy. there are event some good tannins. tasted blind, you might think this was a red wine. needs food.

dark purple colored with a nose of smoke and rich juicy fruit. really juicy alate of reduiced cherries and bittersweet chocolate. a lot of fruit, but there's some nice dark chocolate and earth on the finish. new world style from the old world. very nice.

2008 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

the nose bursts with lavendar and dark cherries. the palate is dense, but very well balanced. tannins are smooth, the mouthfeel is really silky and the acidity is fresh, which makes this easy to drink even this young. the palate has lots of cherries, accented with licorice and cinnamon. medium+ finish.
