  • 1995 Delamotte Champagne Blanc de Blancs Millésimé

    France, Champagne

    Alcohol :: 12%
    Medium golden. Lovely nose, highly expressive that display cold aromas with intense sweet core of honey and caramel, earth with some mushroom. Focus and layered. Very fresh and mouth filing with smooth fine beads that carry out the seductive sweetness and white fruits complexity on the palate that make this drinking nicely despite of its underlying power. Juicy, long finish with nut and mineral. While this is delicious, the sweetness also make this champagne a bit dull, less focus and delicate on the palate which I love from a BDB. Buy - Maybe.

  • 2001 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    Right out of the bottle and man, this is absolutely singing. Such beautiful nose, still young but all the aroma emerge so well, grass, stone fruits, mineral, floral, honey and wood that form this complex aromatic profile with superb focus and harmonious. The aromas continued to evolve in the glass, creamier with vanilla and yellow fruits and flower that I enjoyed the most at this stage. Towards the end of the night, Iodine note appeared along with seaweed and salted mineral complexity, very good still but not something I preferred. Palate wise, it was intense and rich, amazingly young with loads of new wood in it but not distracted at all and remain light on its feet. Crisp entry and getting smoother and rounder in the glass, with buttery, creamy mouth feel that carry on with mild spicy, wax,mineral with heavy wood infused persistent finish that has great drive and energy. Layer, complex and classy, clearly my wine of the night. This is a wine for the long haul. Buy - Yes.

  • 1997 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904

    Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

    Alcohol :: 13%
    Bright light ruby. The nose is really expressive, loaded with red cherry fruits in the core that perfectly blended with mild spices, preserve plum and a doe of vanilla oak and wrapped in a feminine, seductive package. This 14yrs old Rioja has reached its drinking plateau now, fully mature, soft structure, very lively and fresh with salted plum and mineral, slight new wood infused flavors that carry through to the harmoniously long finish with fresh herb, really not bad, though it is relatively straight forward on the palate compared to the more complex nose. Buy - Maybe.
