A few of us got together at a mexican/french fusion place in Chicago's Lincoln Square. Tooch was in town and we had been talking about the vintage, so some 07s it was
A very fun night. Lots of good wines (except for the wyncroft) and great people. This was a smaller tasting and yet again shows me how much fun small tastings can be
NV André Clouet Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé 90 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Nose: pretty and fragrant nose of roses, cherries, mineral tones, red fruits and bits of tart citrus tones
taste: balanced medium feel with medium+ acidity along with tones of roses, cherries, minerals and various citrus tones
overall: this was a nice starting rose. Crisp and refreshing with a bit of a leaner style to it

2006 Wyncroft Chardonnay Avonlea Vineyard 78 Points
USA, Michigan, Lake Michigan Shore
nose: brutally over oaked and buttered nose with almost nothing but butter and oak. There are some tones of mangoes and marzipan, but that's about it
taste: overly rich and very full bodied with low acid and almost nothing but butter on the palate
overall: this was my first wyncroft and it was a massive gutterball. This was just too much on the oak and butter. My glass was dumped pretty fast and rinsed to get a rid of this

2007 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir 90 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
nose: very pretty and lovely nose filled with tones of plums, red fruits, red cherries, earth tones and hint of spices. Well balanced and distinctly oregon as well on the nose
taste: medium bodied, but on the lighter side with medium/high acidity and tones of red fruits, red cherries, spices and some earth tones as well. Very well balanced with poise as well
overall: Though the mid-palate was a bit hollow, it seems like it can be fleshed out a bit with some sideways time. Well balanced and very pretty on both the nose and palate, this is more of a drinkers wine than something that will blow you away

2007 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir Four Winds
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, McMinnville
I don't know if the bottle was flawed or if the wine is all over the place, but something didn't fully seem right. The nose kept swinging back and forth and was very volatile. the palate wasn't out of whack, but the wine just dropped off a cliff on the palate as well. there were some alkaline tones along with nice red fruit tones. My spidey senses weren't sure what to make of it and I'd like to have another bottle before making a full decision

2007 Evening Land Vineyards Pinot Noir Seven Springs Vineyard 92 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
nose: very floral nose filled with tones of roses, various red florals, red currants, red fruits and spice tones. Very pungent as well as the tones just fill up the glass
taste: fuller bodied but not overpowering with refreshing medium+ acidity and silky tones of red currants, red florals, red fruits and lots of different spice tones
overall: this was very pretty and lovely. It holds the fuller body well and seems to just glide across the palate. Some more time will let this fully come into harmony, but one wouldn't necessarily be faulted for giving a bottle a go right now

2007 Scott Paul Cellars Pinot Noir La Paulée 91 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
nose: extremely elegant and perfumed nose that makes me take notice with demure tones of roses, red fruits, red cherries, spice tones, earth and a touch of asparagus
taste: satiny and refined medium feel with medium+ acidity. Beautiful and balanced tones of roses, red fruits, red cherries, earth and spice tones. Very well balanced on the palate as well
overall: what a pretty wine. this was my first try of it and I was thoroughly impressed. This wine just ran with the vintage and what we got was a pinot that brings a more feminine charm

2007 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard 90 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
nose: well this was a very different nose from everything else. Intense and gregarious nose filled with dark red fruits, dark reed cherries, spice tones and bits of plums
taste: full bodied and on the richer side with bigger tones of dark red cherries, spice tones and a good dose of plums. While there are no oak tones, the influence is certainly there
overall: This was definitely a larger scaled pinot, but it held the style well. While not completely to my tastes, this is definitely a very good wine that will work great with people who like bigger styled pinots
