Garnet color of medium-light to medium depth. Moderately expressive Nose is dominated by a non-descript purple & red berry mélange. Medium bodied. Seems underripe; slightly smoky; a bit grapey and earthy. Gut impression score: low to mid 80’s.

Color is blood red, with a violet tinge, and is of great depth. Moderately expressive Nose of melon and new plastic. Medium-full to full bodied. Plush, ripe Palate is tannic and oaky, with non-descript dark fruits. Very internationally-styled. Gut impression score: mid to high 80’s.

-- 80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon --
Dark garnet color of medium-deep depth. Cabernet Sauvignon really comes through on the Nose here: dark berries and a hint of leather; very nice Nose on this. Medium to medium-full bodied. Tannic with loganberry fruit on the slightly stemmy palate; mid-palate hole; imo, this needs a bit more fruit. Gut impression score: high 80’s.

Ruby core lightening to a slight tawniness at the edges. Nose is interesting in its presentation of red berry, green stems, and cooked lamb. Medium-full to full bodied on the palate. Palate is simple and tannic: warm red fruits; not much fruit concentration; medium-long finish of light intensity; 15% alc. is a bit prickly on the palate. Gut impression score: low to mid 80’s.

Light ruby color of medium-light depth. Nose is somewhat simple, showing non-descript red berry aromas, some strawberry licorice as well as a plastic note. Medium-light bodied. Palate is simple and round, with some leathery mineral, and a pronounced green streak; lightly tannic. Gut impression score: low 80’s.

Dark ruby color of medium depth. Nose is really nice, with the typical Strawberry licorice aroma accented by a hint of citrus (lemon?). Medium bodied. This wine has a tart red berry frame buttressed with mineral and leather. Nicely structured with ample tannins and acidity. Long leather-dominated finish of medium-light to medium intensity. 14% alc. is well-hidden. Drinks well today, but will certainly improve with time in the cellar. Gut impression score: high 80’s to low 90’s.

Garnet color of medium to medium-deep depth. Moderately expressive Nose is “dark” and oaky. Medium-full bodied. Good thing I didn’t stop with the Nose on this wine, as only the Palate reveals how good this wine actually is: excellent concentration of fruit – somewhat bitter right now – along with mineral notes and lots of tannins and acidity; oak is a bit overwhelming now, but this certainly has the structure to age well. Needs a lot of time. Gut impression score (based on potential): low to mid 90’s.

Orange-pink color of medium-deep depth. Expressive Nose of raisins, dates and bitter orange peel. Full bodied. Palate is sweet: raisins, and a hint of cement on the almond-dominated finish. 13% alc. is well-hidden.

2010 Poggiotondo Bianco Toscana IGT
Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
-- tasted a couple glasses non-blind, each over a few minutes, separated in time by about 1.5 hours --
Nearly colorless, with just the slightest hint of yellow color. Nose is not expressive, but does give-up scents of powdery musk and a winery during crush. Medium bodied on the palate, with an oily mouthfeel. Mineral-dominated flavor profile. 13.5% alc.. A good wine, but nothing special. Gut impression score: mid 80’s.

-- tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 10 minutes --
Green-yellow color of medium-light depth. Expressive Nose has a pleasurable honeydew melon aroma, accented by flecks of musk. Medium-light bodied. Light tropical fruits on the Palate, with hints of minerals and lots of lactic acid; 13% alc. does lend a slight alcoholic warmth. Gut impression score: mid 80’s.
