  • 2009 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    Decanted for 60mins. Expressive but at the same time there was this cold tone keep this restraint: green apple, lemon with a touch of smoke, vanilla and hazelnut. Compared to the Maltroie, this was a little bit higher on the acid and resulted on a little sharp on the entry, but there was sufficient mid palate richness and concentration to give it a good buffer. A bit tight after the mid palate suggest this need some bottle age to come around, say 5yrs. Medium length mineral infused finished with good focus and tension. Paired really well with the Gillardeau oysters. 90-91+

  • 1999 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Désirée 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    Opened for 3.5hrs. Medium golden. Very pure and airy on the nose, almost Champagne like: honey, toasted nut, red apple, lemon, pear, yellow flower and huge mineral background. Equally pure on the palate with good concentration of sweet pure yellow fruits, hazelnut, refreshing minerality and a touch salinity and coffee that wrapped in a powerful package and leads to the very spicy medium length, smooth finish. Excellent in whole with good density but perhaps smaller in scale.

  • 1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon 95 Points

    France, Champagne

    Alcohol :: 12.5%
    Opened for 8hrs. Medium golden. This is still pretty tight and powerful on the nose. The aromas is deep and intense, with layer and layer of honey, red apple, melon, hazelnut and touch of oxidative note that display hazelnut, yeast and vanilla oak. However, the palate was showing better here. Soft entry with tremendous richness that offer concentrated ripe yellow fruits core and accompany by touch of honey, nut, mushroom and oak and all perfectly balance and supported by the firm, fresh acidic backbone. Stunningly pure with razor sharp precision and focus. The wine flowed through the palate elegantly yet with excellent intensity and power. Especially at the finished, the wine seems got turbo charged which giving amazing grip and length. As delicious as a DP could offer. This classy DP will have no problem to age for the next decade or so and continue to drink well for another 2decades.

  • 2002 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines Vieille Vigne 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    Opened for 2hrs. Wow, what a nose! Highly expressive with high tone meatiness and underbrush accompany by sweet dark fruits, roasted herbs and earth, complex and intense, still rather powerful for 10yrs of age. The complex aromas also reflect on the finely detail palate which have better dimension with spices. The profile get sweeter and darker when the wine sat in the glass, loaded with blackberry and cherry all wrapped in a silky, creamy cloak. Still some tannin and oak yet to be resolved and integrated, another 3-5yrs will surely benefit. I like the tension and purity here, very long finished. 92-93

  • 2007 Domaine Leroy Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremières 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

    Alcohol :: 13.5%
    My oh my, the nose is even higher tone and perfume than the 02 Fourrier, Chambolle is one of the factor but with such complexity and intensity for a Village, respect! High tone with excellent intensity on both nose and palate. Expressive aromas of sweet red cherry, blue flower and forest floor, together with savory and coffee note that sum up the complex aromatic profile. Dense and rich on the palate, was this a village? The density and purity here is remarkable, umami and loads of sappiness. Silky from entry to the very long, powerful mineral and spicy infused finished that keep lingering wit hint of meatiness too. This was really delicious but you can feel the restraint at the very end which suggested the wine is begging for at least another 5yrs to show the best of herself. Definitely a wow for the quality, but sadly as well as for the cost. 92-93

  • 1998 Château L'Evangile 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

    Alcohol :: 13%
    Double decanted for 2.5hrs. Despite on the preparation, this is still superb powerful and backward. Nose was powerful, broad-shoulder and focus, loaded with sweet dark fruits, savory meatiness intermixed with tobacco leaves, spice box, leather and earthy complexity. With time, intense note of ink and graphite appeared. Similar to previous bottle, the palate is still dominated by the solid structured, high level of very firm tannin and tons of muscle with crunchy fruits underneath. A monstrous wine that's it but it is precise and well delineated. This full bodied, dense, muscular Evangile is still primary and raw at this stage, it deserves another decade in the bottle to develop better nuances and integrate. The powerful long finished last more than a min with savory meatiness and sweet plum aftertaste. 93-95
