Blue fruit, plum and spice. Much richer than I was expecting. Nice little spice and grip.

Not quite the grip with the '10 Marcarini. Easy going medium body but a very refreshing body style. Clearwater and clean red fruit. Light on the texture front.

This is the boogie, laid back a touch on the fruit and spice from the Marcarini. Black fruit appeal, a touch of tug and really just giving up that someone loves making Dolcetto. Medium (-)tannin and solid appeal.

Day2 and all the better for it. Wow on the palate, pronounced flavor intensity with a fabulous herb, licorice, cherry. Moss, pointy. Great structure, tight, spice, and it all pulls together. Seriously impressive.

Powerful and pronounced ripe red cherry aromas. Palate carries massive tannin, earthier than the nose and moss. A light smoke-y edge. Menthol. This sure needs a couple years. This is a pretty impressive Marcarini.

Really suave fruit texture on the palate, but some new oak appears as coconut oil on the palate and generally rounds off this beast. Big dash of toast, browned earth and oak on the nose. Wearing a tight belt right now.
Day 3 and I'm more of a believer. Really sexy texture.

Dark baking spice aromas on dark red fruit. Subtly gingerbread. More of a brooding monster than the Ginestra '08, again some coconut oil new oak on the palate. For sure respectfully used.

Much more clean and pure aromas coming off here after the two Conterno-Fantino wines. Red cherry and spice, licorice and rather forthcoming. A full and firm fruit on the palate. High strung, but built like a race horse.

...dark cherry aromas, tannin is on full tilt here. Very fine indeed and needs some 4-5 years before breaching that case. There is a new oak thought that plays out on the palate. Really dark kernel, maybe not new oak, but that's my thought. It wasn't present in the Terlo.

Rustic texture on red fruit. Yeah, nice and straight forward.

2010 Conterno Fantino Barbera d'Alba Vignota
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
Next to the Marcarini, this shows rounder fruit, and better for it. Really giving Barbera, as in, giving it up! Black licorice, and medium body. A really generous medium body.
