Open 3 hours before serving. Lush black cherry aromas with fresh herbs. Very forward and ripe black cherry flavors, well balanced with some dark chocolate, tarragon and espresso. Very charming and accessible. A better wine today than the Dominode in the next glass, although the latter will be a better wine long-term.

Open 3 hours before serving. Very ripe black and red cherry aromas with lots of spice. Dense and slightly compact on palate, but strong spice emerging on long finish. Not as interesting today as the Guettes in the next glass, but I think Dominode will be the better wine longer term.

Open almost 4 hours before serving. Slightly floral start with lots of red fruit and some nutmeg and cinnamon. More lean on palate, with lots of acidity and minerality. Not as accessible as the Tallepieds or Ronceret in the same flight, this wine will take the most time to show its full potential.

Open almost 4 hours before serving. Ripe black cherry aromas with lots of fresh herbs and spice. Black cherry and blackberry flavors with great intensity and density but with the structure to keep this in balance.

Open almost 4 hours before serving. Lush and perfumed start really shows the wine's whole cluster fermentation. Great ripe fruit with moderate length. Most accessible and alluring in the flight, alongside the Caillerets and Tallepieds.

Open 4 hours before serving, decanted 2 hours. Great spice on nose with lots of red cherry and strawberry. Ripe red and black cherry comes through on palate with great sweet brown spice. Absolutely beautiful already, with great power and length, even if not showing classic Chambolle character to me tonight. But that's the nature of the vintage and I'm optimistic it will emerge over time. If that elegance and lacy texture emerges, this will be a 95+ point wine.

Open 5 hours, decanted at least 2 hours before serving. Dark black fruit aromas with meaty spice, classically Gevrey. Sturdy and dense ripe black cherry and blackberry. Everything is large in this wine - structure, fruit, spice, density. if served blind, I probably would have thought this Grand Cru based on its density. This will take at least a decade to soften, but is a very impressive 1er.

Open 5 hours before serving. Big, burly and very modern styled wine. All black fruit, big and fat without lots of nuance tonight, but this needs lots of time to soften. Not as exciting as I recall from barrel tasting at Bernstein in the fall of 2010.

Open 5 hours before serving. Very similar to several tastings earlier this year. Impressive black fruit on palate and nose with great precision, finesse and length. Expanding on finish.

Open 5+ hours before serving. decanted 3 hours. Intense cherry aromas, very exciting and floral. Lush, powerful and very exciting. Long and textured finish. Give this a decade and it will keep getting better.

Open 5 hours before served. Floral with red cherry aromas. Modest fruit on palate, just didn't come across as completely pristine. Perhaps an off bottle? Not even close to how well it showed when tasted with Virgile in Burgundy September 2010. Otherwise probably an 89 point wine tonight.

2009 Domaine Matrot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Lush, ripe stone fruit to start, but this was corked and that emerged rather quickly once in glass.

2009 Domaine Matrot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Starts with ripe, poached orchard fruit and floral hints. Palate quite a bit more restrained, almost showing a steely reserve I rarely see in 2009s. Also well spiced and textured, this is an impressive showing and will benefit from 5+ years in the cellar.
