Nice finesse-driven wine with elegant aromas and OK fruit. It still had nice acidity and tannin, with some hint of red fruit on the palate, and well balanced with emerging earthy character. Not getting any better.

Very good red and black fruit and overall balance. Somewhat simple but a very elegant wine. Much better than another bottle our group had two months ago.

My WOTF, and consensus 2nd place WOTF. Perfumed start. Good fruit, lots of interesting spice and complexity. Great overall balance, with good acidity. This was starting to show some fine mushroom character. Not quite as good as a bottle our group had 3-4 months ago, which had better fruit (both bottles from the same case).

Consensus WOTF. Black fruit and lots of rustic charm and character. This wine is barely entering its prime. Lots of firm structure - both tannins and acidity providing good support, but coming across balanced. Great spice and animale elements on the finish. Much fresher flavor than Burghound's most recent note.

An unusual 1997. Moderate fruit and somewhat imbalanced, with more structure than fruit. I’m not sure if all the new oak helped or distorted the moderate fruit. Some folks enjoyed its sweetness but I found the fruit/acid/tannin/oak balance not particularly Burgundian. My least enjoyable Rousseau tonight.

This was a complete contrast to the prior wine. Big black and red fruit. Ripe, lush fruit with nice spice on the finish. Very long finish. Great overall balance. Not the most nuanced CSJ I’ve ever had, but lots of pleasure. This wine is getting close to its peak, and is drinking great right now.

Started with an unpleasant nose, possibly from sulfur. Black fruit aromas came through over time. Good red and black fruit on palate, pleasant but somewhat simple. Good overall balance, this wine was better with food, but still simple. Most likely at its peak.

Incredibly lush nose, showing black fruit with great spice. Mostly blackberry fruit as well on the palate, with great concentration and overall balance. Nice smoky flavors, with just a trace of chocolate. This wine is still far from its peak but was excellent tonight, and will be far better 2010-2028. For me, a "96 point" wine. My WOTN. Consensus WOTN.

2000 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Served blind. Most people guessed this was from a lush recent vintage, 2002 or even 2003. I was surprised that this was Chablis. Floral, with hints of fatness, it showed great fruit and muscle. It was a very big wine and will be much better in another 2-5 years.

2002 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 95 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasted blind alongside its 2000 vintage counterpart. Incredible minerality and crisp fruit. At first, people guessed Meursault because of its rich fruit, nutty hints and incredible acidity. Nice citrus trace on finish. This showed great fruit purity and no oak manipulation. For me, close to an excellent wine. Group was evenly divided between the two wines.
