Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2003 Château Duhart-Milon 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Funky big fruit. Merlot qualities. Lots of ripe vanilla and chocolate doused berries.
Most figured this was Right Bank Bordeaux including myself. Softer palate. Supple and round.

  • 2002 Darioush Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Big anise, rocky, darker liqueur fruit. Big tar and touch of earth and funk. Black olive. Real heady. Real big palate.
Sweetness in fruit. Robust and lots of grip. Obviously Napa. Thought it could have been Syrah with some spice notes.

  • 2000 Château Malescot St. Exupéry 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Super funky. Really aromatic.
Earth and moderate bright red fruit with touches of brighter road tar. Wet dog and some lighter red and brown rust.
At first thought this could have been Northern Italy, but then baking spice and dirty leather led me towards Bordeaux.
Smokey cherries, chocolate grip with nice acidity. Most thought this was older than 2000 but still everyone was happy with the performance.

  • 1989 Le Bahans de Château Haut-Brion 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

At first we all thought this was totally flawed. With time the super duper musty funk blew off and left only a nice elegant funk behind.
Some mothballs and a unique earthy drive. In the end, this was falling apart and needed to be drank pretty quick.

  • 1978 Château La Conseillante 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Lovely funky aromas. Rustic raspberries. Dried herbs and autumnal leaves.
Touch of smoky bacon fat and sweet spice.
Fading palate is real acidic and showing more of than rustic leaf. A little eucalyptus.
Very Burgundian in some stinky ways. Interesting.
