France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Dark, butterscotch nose, smooth, drinkable with vague appley fruit, but no oomph. (i hadn't realised I'd had this before, but my note from six years ago is almost identical)
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
The sommelier thought this out of condition, but no one round the table had a problem with it. Tight, fresh, with a minty tone, then a bit spirity, with a cherry liqueur quality. Attractive.

Another one that the sommelier questioned, perhaps because of the medicinal tone to the nose, which I found edgy, fresh and bracing and behind it was sweet red fruit, very pinot, gently gorgeous

France, Champagne
Very fine, lacy textured, rich, refined, and yet bursting with energy, showing few signs of age. Brilliant
