This DP tasting was organized by Moritz Peeters and hosted by Dutch wine writer Gert Crum, originally we did a Krug tasting in April 2012 , now it was time to taste some Dom Perignon’s.
The perfect balance between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and terroirs, while letting the character of the vintage shine through that’s the foundation of Dom Pérignon’s style.
Dom Pérignon expresses its first plénitude after seven years in the cellar, with a second plénitude 12 to 15 years after the vintage (first Oenothèque release) and a third plénitude after 30 to 40 years (second Oenothèque release).
Compared Dom Pérignon versus Krug,
The Dom Perignon being for those who want a lighter more delicate champagne that will win the affection of most. Krug on the other hand is a rich and powerful style of champagne that I personally adore, and it will always have a home in my cellar.
Special thanks to Moritz Peeters, next in a few weeks a very interesting EGON MULLER tasting .......
2003 Dom Pérignon Champagne 90 Points
France, Champagne
Spring frosts in early april, summer was the hottest for years. A early harvest and a ripe and healthy crop. Vintage is a bit similar like 1976. The DP 2003 was released in December 2011. On the nose, sweet, bright floral notes, on the palate rich, lush and sweet, there is no hard edge here, the fruit is overwhelming, very less acidity or minerals, lacks a bit of the precision and focus, here the vintage shines through. Very accessible but not really my style ....
