Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • 2005 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Grand Cru Vieille Vigne de Cramant 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Aggressive mousse on the nose with some red apple, yeast and bread.
Very edgy on the palate with some red apples and a lot of almond-like bitterness in the mid- to end-palate.
Solid fresh acidity and overall an interesting wine with plenty of edges :-)
    Really improves with air!

  • 2004 Hugues Godmé Champagne Premier Cru Les Alouettes Saint Bets 94 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Impressive and intense young nose with loads of green apples and lemon juice. Also shows some bread and yeast.
Juicy quince style fruit on the palate with a hint of yellow plums.
The lemon-juice is very pronounced and interesting and has plenty of young green-apple acidity.
Impressive and complex wine that should age very nicely!

  • 2008 Sine Qua Non Kolibri 94 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County

Intense and dense honeyed nose with a touch of vanilla and hints of rubber and liquorice-root.
Dense on the palate with candied rubber a lot of honey and and again a hint of spicy vanilla.
Complex flowery notes also coming through but also a very concentrated style.
Impressive but seems to lack a lot of acidity for my taste.
However an interesting wine that should be able to age for a very long time!

  • 1986 Château Cos d'Estournel 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe

The nose is open and full-bodied filled with lots of black currant fruit and also some shoe polish, coffee and cigar-box. Lovely and classic nose.
Plenty of fresh black currant fruit on the palate but also an excessive supply of tannins :-)
Also quite bitter in the aftertaste.
A nice wine but somewhat off balance.

  • 1986 Château Talbot 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Animalistic and sweet nose with a charming hint of pine trees. Also shows a lot of black currants and has a lot of complexity.
The palate is currently barely starting to open up for business :-)
Plenty of fresh black currant fruit and just a few tertiary notes like coffee, lead and iron. Just a weak hint of leather also.
    Impressive wine worth seeking out.

  • 2003 Dom Pérignon Champagne 96 Points

    France, Champagne

Complex and intense nose with lemon-juice, white flowers and sweet peaches.
Sweet peaches are dominant on the palate with a hint of lemon.
Some freshness but there is certainly a lot of fruit sweetness.
Overall a wine I really liked but it was really difficult to guess this wine as it is very not a "normal" Dom P.
Packed with flavors and lots of edges!

  • 2003 Alban Vineyards Syrah Reva Alban Estate Vineyard 96 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Edna Valley

Powerful nose packed with a mix of dark mashed fruits and a lot of tomato stalks.
Dense and boiled mashed dark fruits on the palate but are strangely enough still able to maintain an acceptable balance.
The palate also has some sweet cherries and gunpowder but also a lot of refreshing acidity.
Still a very young and compact wine and completely true to the Reva style.
    Loved it :-)

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Nose: Intense, black pepper, dark plums, blackberry. Slightly closed.
Open and fresh blackberry fruit palate with a lot of black pepper and a long full-bodied aftertaste.
Quite spicy also a decent amount of acidity.
A solid wine in a challenging vintage.

  • 2001 Gramona Cava Brut Nature III Lustros Gran Reserva 93 Points

    Spain, Cava

Tons of rye bread on the nose with hints of butter and bread.
Sweet red/brown apples on the palate with a impressive density. The rye is also very much present but also some mushrooms.
Plenty of edges and overall a very interesting bottle. Perhaps a bit short of the aftertaste.

  • 1996 Weingut Robert Weil Kiedricher Gräfenberg Riesling Beerenauslese 92 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

Apricot nose with a hint of vanilla. Also some burnt pineapple.
Pickled pineapple and apricot on the palate with a funny hint of wet hay.
Lack a little acidity and sweetness.
The lack of sweetness is perhaps a bit disappointing for a BA level wine.
