One of my favorite opportunities to taste through many great wines at all different price and quality levels from a friend and great Chicago distributor. Alas I only had about 45 minutes to spend, so only had the time to try perhaps 20% of the wine at the tasting, missing dozens of wines I wished I could have tasted. Next year....
2011 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
Tasting, brief note. Mostly lemon with some apple, good balance and moderate density and weight. Best over the next few years.

2011 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine
Tasting, brief note. Definitely my favorite of the 4 wines tasted from the 2011 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon lineup today. Again mostly citrus with some apple notes, but more intensity and minerality start-to-finish. 89-90 point potential here.

2011 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Viré-Clessé
Tasting, brief note. Also good concentration and fruit quality on par with the Clos du Four, but I didn't find quite the same level of nuance and texture. Still good.

2012 Château des Quarts Pouilly-Fuissé Clos de Quarts
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
Tasting, brief note. similar to when tasted in Burgundy this spring, perhaps with a bit more heft. Good cross-section of apple aromas and flavors with moderate length, good concentration most notably in the middle.

2011 Comte Armand Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc Condemaine
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. Similar to when tasted months back, this is a very pleasant wine that would be a good choice for an every-day near-term drinker. Lighter styled, good balance, good freshness.

2011 Hubert Lamy Bourgogne Blanc Les Chataigners
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

2011 Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. Probably my favorite of the several 2011 Bourgognes just tasted. Big fruit concentration for its level, but everything in balance. I was told the fruit is actually from Meursault and Puligny. Very good value.

2011 Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses
Tasting, brief note. Lots of apple and pear with very good spice. Impressive for its level and lesser known appellation, but I've enjoyed this Leroux wine in each of the past few years. Very good.

2011 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Tart apple with modest spice. Leaner styled with very good textures. Good overall, perhaps not quite as good as the 2009 vintage of this wine that I recently opened.

2011 Benjamin Leroux Puligny-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting, brief note. Similar to when last tasted a few months back but more intense and floral than I recall, with an almost perfumed character. Very charming. Very good for its level, but this is an expensive Villages level wine.

2011 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Lemon and lemon custard aromas and flavors, this is all about elegance and finesse. Often a personal favorite form Lamy, this 2011 doesn't disappoint. 91 point potential here.

2009 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe fruit, ever-so-slightly tropical. Big, fat and forward to start with sneaky structural support coming through in middle. Good now.

2009 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Nicely perfumed start shows great support for ripe fruit. Lots of stone fruit with tropical hints, this is rounded with moderate length, but enough balance for lots of near-term enjoyment.

2011 Jean Noel Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Slightly floral with lemon, lemon peel, savory spice aromas. Apple and lemon flavors with good spice hints. very bright and energetic, I preferred this slightly more than the two 2009s just tasted. Very good.

2011 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Apple and pear aromas with hints of lemon peel and mint. Similar fruit profile on palate with good length and persistence. Certainly cellar worthy, 91-92 point potential.

2011 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting, brief note. Similar to when tasted in the spring, this is forward and very tasty right now and enjoyable, with the level of nuance you should expect from Bourgogne.

2010 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting, brief note. I found this very enjoyable but quite surprising. Slightly sweet and completely forward, it seemingly had a Passetoutgrains character, but this is 100% Pinot Noir from near Marsannay. I think this would be a good restaurant glass pour.

2011 Camille Giroud Pinot Noir Bourgogne
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting, brief note. A bit ripe, spicy and rustic at the same time. This will probably benefit from another year in the cellar. Average for its level.

2011 Camille Giroud Santenay
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay
Tasting, brief note. For me this was a big step from the Giroud Bourgogne just tasted. All about red berry here with nice supporting spice. Aromas could be mistake for Volnay, palate a bit more firm and animale in small doses. Good young.

2011 Benjamin Leroux Savigny-lès-Beaune
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
Tasting, brief note. Rustic red fruit with some meaty character. Firm throughout with a slightly rough finish. Cellar for a few years.

2010 Camille Giroud Maranges 1er Cru Le Croix Moines
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Earlier this year i became a big fan of the 2011 vintage for this wine, today was my first opportunity with the 2010. Another excellent value wine. Red and black cherry with some ripe as well as tart elements, this is well balanced with modest spice. Nice expanding finish. 89-90 point potential makes this a very great value wine.

2009 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit aromas and flavors with some spring flowers and modest spice. Lots of structure makes this seem slightly backward and shut down right now vs most 2009s, but there is clearly a lot of good stuff here. Needs a couple of years++ in the cellar.

2009 Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit and modest spice with very good concentration. Still slightly more firm than I'd like, but with the power and raw materials to emerge into a top notch wine in another few years. I see I liked this a great deal from barrel in 2010, less so from bottle in 2012, and now it's starting to emerge in the way i was expecting/ hoping in 2010 at the Domaine.

2011 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Santenots
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red cherry and strawberry with moderate spice and lots of energy. Good power but seemingly in balance and drinkable today. Very good value wine.

2011 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Similar to the Santenots just tasted but slightly more intense while also more tannic. An intriguing mineral-driven texture throughout. 92-93 point potential for me, a real success for the vintage.

2010 Domaine Sylvain Pataille Marsannay
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
Tasting, brief note. Black and blue fruit, coming across as slightly jammy to start, then some good energy and structure towards middle. Okay.

2011 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Vosne-Romanée Alliance des Terroirs
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry, moderately ripe, nicely spiced. slightly simple flavors but well textured, this is a very good Villages Burg for Burg fans, probably lean for people who tend to prefer New World Pinot Noir.

2011 Digioia-Royer Chambolle-Musigny
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting brief note. I have always thought Digioia-Royer to be an "old school" producer, and this was certainly an "old school" wine. Somewhat of a tannic beast right now, I felt this on the roof and sides of my mouth long after the finish.

2010 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting, brief note. Slightly floral with plenty of red and black cherry on nose and palate. Starts forward and fun, picks up energy and structure towards finish that's long for its level. Has to have been some whole cluster here that adds even more nuance. Very good for its level, worth seeking out.

2010 Domaine Bruno Clair Vosne-Romanée Les Champs Perdrix
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasting, brief note. Firm black berry and cherry with plenty of savory spice. Firm and persistent, this has very good potential but needs at least 5 more years to soften a little more.

2009 Domaine Alain Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Forward and very pleasurable black fruit, slightly simpler than I recall from previous times tasted. Good now, but with potential to pick up nuance.

2008 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. I haven't tasted this wine in three years but had it several times around/after release. Today this seemed very lean, seemingly quite shut down. This now needs a few more years in the cellar.

2011 Benjamin Leroux Gevrey-Chambertin
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Slightly lighter styled than I normally expect from young Gevrey, but this has good black fruit, earthy, umami elements and some gamy notes, so still quite classic combination of flavors and aromas. Like many 2011s, best as an early drinker.

2011 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Morey St. Denis Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Black berry, hints of chocolate, perhaps some liqueur aromas. Good concentration with moderate length and nuance.

2009 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. This bottle came across as slightly reduced, which was clearly dissipating with aeration. No question the ripeness, dry extract and concentration are there for this wine to continue evolving for a decade+ going forward, but tough to fairly assess today.

2012 Maison Albert Bichot Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes de Pinot Noir
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Tasting, brief note. Good fruit for its level and price. Fun and simple with no rough edges. This would be a very good wine-by-the-glass at a restaurant wanting an entry level Burg.

2010 Maison Albert Bichot Beaune Clos de l'Ermitage
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune
Tasting, brief note. Austere fruit with firm tannins, this is a leaner styled wine that will require plenty more cellar time.

2010 Maison Albert Bichot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts Domaine du Clos Frantin 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Hints of greatness here in lots of black berry and cherry on nose and palate with Asian five spice. Very good density, picking up heft all the way through to long finish. Needs time.

2011 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Uchizy Les Maranches
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Uchizy
Tasting, brief note. A step up for me vs Lamartine. Similar but more floral and greater fruit complexity and density. Very good for its level and price.
