Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 1998 Château Haut-Brion

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

nose - mint, earth, perfumed, hints of underarm and sweaty sock
mouth - cherry, orange peel, sweet berry, some bitterness, mushrooms, long and fine. mature. surprisingly still somewhat tannic given its age.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

98HB is really a very lovely wine.

  • 2000 Château Haut-Brion

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

nose - mint, cherry, tinge of smoke
mouth - very focused, laser beam dark cherry, solid fruit. I agree with Tanzer that
this is wine tastes 'unmanipulated'. Nice minearlity with a touch of herbality. Much more
balanced than the 2000 Pavie which it was tasted next to.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

00HB actually reminded me a little bit of a 1990 Lafite that Duane poured us a while back. Has that kind of purity that I think
makes good renditions of first growths special.

  • 2000 Château Pavie

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

nose - exotic red fruit, ripe nose, slightly syrupy. New world nose
mouth - bold cherry, plum, per Sam confectionary red fruit. Long. Very much
new world. Nice but I prefered the 2000 Haut Brion

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2005 Château Pavie

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

decanted for close to 24 hrs ahead of time
nose - blackberry, blackberry liqueur, whisky and wood
mouth - huge dark fruit, still a tannic monster, monstrous fruit bomb, and attarctive in its own way. This
is the kind of wine Parker would drool over. Unique. Too early.

Flight 6 (1 Note)

05 Pavie is a freak show (a '47 Cheval Blanc in the making?).

  • 1982 Château Gruaud Larose

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

tasted blind, courtesy of the Patriarch.
nose - musky, earth, strawberry. wildly perfumed
mouth - very complex with powerful fruit. Hints of bitterness. tutti fruiti.
My guess was an 89 or 90 Lynch Bages. Great wine

Flight 7 (1 Note)

proud to have introduced to Duane to Gruard Larose, and shocked that Sam, blind, guessed it to be a Gruaud Larose.
