  • 2011 Berry Bros. & Rudd Good Ordinary Claret

    The wine is clear medium ruby with very little in terms of tears on the glass.
    The nose is clean. It is medium intense with aromas of red and black fruit (particularly black currant), some burnt toast, and a bit of squeezed orange peel. Some vanilla too. The oak used is clear.
    It is developing.
    The wine is dry with medium plus acidity and with medium plus tannins. The alcohol is medium plus and it is medium bodied with medium flavour intensity. It tastes of black fruit with some smoke and charcoal. It feels a bit weak on the mid palate and the length is medium minus.
    The quality is good and it can be drunk now, but has potential for further ageing.

    The wine appears clear medium yellow with a few slow running legs on the side of the glass.
    The nose is clean with medium intensity. It has aromas of grass, green pepper, red apple, lime zest, and some oak (hint of vanilla). A bit buttery.
    It is developing.
    The palate is dry with medium plus acidity and medium plus alcohol.
    It is medium bodied and has medium plus flavour intensity.
    The flavours are lime zest, lemon, grass, unripe red berries, and a hint of oak.
    It is not particularly balanced, and it has a slightly bitter aftertaste.
    The finish is medium plus.
    It is good quality and should be drunk now. It is not suitable for further ageing.

    The wine is clear deep ruby in the glass. It has lots of slow running tears on the side of the glass.
    The nose is clean with medium plus intensity and with aromas of black currant, sour cherries, smoked mean, cigar box, and vanilla. There is also damp earth.
    It is developing.
    The wine is dry with medium plus acidity and with soft velvety medium plus tannins. The alcohol level is medium plus and and its body is medium plus.
    Flavour intensity is medium with black fruit (cherries and black currant) and with some toast. There is a bit of smoke and forrest floor. It is surprisingly primary on the palate given the smell, but is well balanced although the mid palate is a bit weak.
    The finish is medium.
    The quality level is very good.
    It can be drunk now but has potential for further ageing. I think it will be better in five years.

    Clear medium garnet with distinct legs and sediment in the glass.
    The nose is clean medium intense and with aroma characteristics of black berries, prunes, plums, vanilla, sandal wood, leather, and used tea bags.
    The nose is fully developed.
    The wine is dry with medium plus acidity and with soft velvety medium tannins. The alcohol is medium and it is full bodied with medium plus flavour intensity. Key characteristics are black berries and black currant. There is smoked meat and clear forrest floor.
    It is quite complex and well balanced with a medium plus finish.
    The quality level is outstanding and it should be drunk now. It is not suitable for ageing or further ageing. I think it will keep well for a couple of years, but I do not see it getting any better.

  • 2008 Domaine Pichard Madiran Cuvée Aimé

    The wine is clear opaque purple in the glass with slow running tears on the side. There is no sediment in the sample.
    The nose is clean and pronounced with prunes and plums in combination with black cherries. There is liquorice and tar on the nose as well and hints of wood smoke.
    The wine is developing.
    The wine is dry with medium plus acidity and with medium tannins. The alcohol level is high.
    The wine is full bodied with with pronounced flavour intensity of black berries, dark cherries, prunes, bbq smoke, and clear oak.
    The tannins dry are smooth and the fruit is certainly fully ripe, but it does dry out the mouth a bit.
    The finish is medium plus in length.
    The wine is very good and while it can be drunk now it has potential for ageing. I would wait a few years before I drink it.

    The wine is clean medium gold with relatively little in terms of tears on the glass. It does not appear very viscous.
    The nose is clean with medium plus intense aromas of pineapple, lemon, melon, roses, and hints of drying glue.
    It appears youthful without any tertiary aromas.
    The wine is sweet with high acidity and with medium plus alcohol.
    The body is medium plus and it has pronounced flavour characteristics of very ripe mango, honey, vanilla, and a hint of orange peel.
    The finish is long. It is well balanced, but it is not particularly complex for this type of wine.
    The quality level is very good and the wine can either be drunk now or kept with potential for further ageing.

    The wine looks clear and is pale lemon with few tears on the glass.
    The nose is clean with medium intensity and has notes of green apple, cut gras, and lime. There is just a hint of vanilla in the background. It is youthful.
    The palate is dry with high acidity and with medium alcohol.
    It is medium minus bodied with medium flavour intensity and with flavour characteristics of lemon, lime, orange peel, green apple, and a hint of pine.
    It has a medium finish.
    The quality level is good and the wine should can be drunk now, but also has potential for further ageing.

  • 2011 Vincent Carême Vouvray Sec

    The wine is clear medium lemon colour with almost nothing in terms of tears on the glass. It does not appear very viscous.
    The nose is clean with medium intensity and ripe aroma characteristics of exotic fruit (Mango, Peach, Melon, Pineapple), caramel, flowers, and a hint of bubble gum. At the back of the nose there is a hint of petrol.
    It is developing.
    The palate is dry with medium plus acidity and medium plus alcohol. It is full bodied and has medium plus flavour intensity. It is slightly bitter, but has characteristics of lime peel, ripe exotic fruit, and burnt sugar.
    It is medium long in the mouth. I think this would drink a lot better with food than on its own.
    The quality level is good, and this can either be drunk now, but also has potential to age (I would drink in the next 4 years).

    Clear medium purple with some tears on the glass.
    On the nose it is clean, medium plus intense, with aromas of black fruit (bramble, blueberries, and blackberries), notes of cranberries, burnt toast, and black pepper. There is also a hint of menthol giving freshness. It feels slightly alcoholic.
    It is youthful with mainly primary aromatics on the nose.
    On the palate it is dry with medium plus acidity and mouth drying high tannins.
    The alcohol level is high and it is full bodied. The flavour intensity is medium plus with black fruit, slightly unripe cherries, smoked meat, and a hint of white pepper.
    The finish is medium.
    The quality is good, and it can drink now, but has potential for ageing. I think it is better in a couple of years, but it will not age for very long as the acidity is not high enough.

    It is medium plus long and the quality level is very good. It can be drunk now, but has potential to age further.

    The wine is clear deep ruby with clear tears on the glass. There are no deposits.
    The nose is clean, medium plus intense, with red fruit aromas (red currant, red cherries), but a pronounced scent of cat urine, there is some dill, and pungent spice in there as well (juniper and liquorice)
    The alcohol is quite clear on the nose. I do not find the nose particularly pleasant.
    It is developing.
    On the palate it is dry with medium acidity and medium plus tannins. It has high alcohol and is full bodied with medium plus flavour characteristics of dark fruit, sweet liquorice, prunes, and a hint of smoked meat.
    It is relatively simple and the length is medium.
    The quality is good. It can be drunk now, but has potential for ageing.

    The nose is clean with medium intensity and is showing clear pungent spice (liquorice, anise, black pepper) in addition to the black fruit and a hint of unripe cherries. It is developing.
    The palate is dry with medium plus acidity and medium plus slightly astringent tannins. The alcohol level is medium plus. It is full bodied and has medium flavour characteristics dominated by dark fruit (black berries, blue berries), with pungent spice also showing.
    It is slightly drying in the mouth.
    The finish is medium and it seems a bit weak on the mid palate.
    The quality level is good and it can be drunk now, but has potential for further ageing.

    The nose is clean, medium intense with aromas of dominating green apple with cut grass, lime juice, and a hint of pineapple.
    It is youthful.
    The palate is dry with medium plus acidity and medium alcohol. It is medium bodied with medium plus flavour intensity and aromas of lime, green apple, and some gooseberries. There is a hint of bitterness as well towards the end.
    The finish is medium and it feels slightly aggressive.
    The quality level is good and it can be drunk now, but also has potential for ageing.

    It is medium in length and is not very complex.
    The quality level is good and it should be drunk now.

    The nose is clean with medium plus intensity and with complex ripe fruit aromas including, red apple, pear, gooseberries, and lychee. There is flowery scents and even a hint of pungent spice at the very back of the nose.
    It is youthful.
    The palate is medium dry with high acidity and low alcohol. It is medium bodied with medium plus flavour intensity of ripe green fruit, sweet exotic fruit, and sweet spice.
    The finish is medium plus. It is quite complex.
    The quality is outstanding and the wine can be drunk now, but has potential for ageing.

    Its finish is medium.
    The quality is acceptable and it should be drunk now without further ageing.
