E & M's in the rocks, Sydney
Tasted Sunday, November 23, 2014 by chatters with 381 views
After a morning of work it was lovely to partake of a much postponed cabernet and lamb lunch that took place in 38C heat so was downgraded to lamb kebabs from lamb roast with lots of mediterranean style accompanying food items...Cabs had to have a quick half hour in the fridge (and repeated visits) to stop them turning into thick, fruity, jubey lumps.
What a lovely time and what lovely wine. As usual E & M were superb hosts.
All the wines were bit younger than how I like to drink them but it's good to be challenged. Tour de Mons proved my WoTD, followed by the Tour Sieujean.
2012 Dexter Chardonnay
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula
Simple, nice Chardonnay - touches of citrus and stone fruits, butter and toast. More of the same on the palate. Pleasant enough.

2009 Château La Tour de Mons
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Ahh, that's better...the fruit is more evident on the palate and has calmed a little on the nose - still blackcurrant and cream but far better balance than when I last tried it. With time touches of coffee.

2009 Château Le Crock
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
same as the day before...slightly jammy fruit, vanilla, crushed rocks, thick, dense...lacks acidity. Actually don't mind this today.

2009 Château d'Aiguilhe
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
Jammy, rich, thick, dense, plums, vanilla, even chocolate. Hmm. Not today for me.

2010 La Violetta Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Le Rayon
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Great Southern
Quite green - in the way that implies that the grapes got too ripe too early and were panic harvested to retain some acidity. Still a touch warm. Flavours of red currant over black currant - quite cabernet franc like but without the freshness. There is a sour harshness to the acidity for me as well. Hmm.

2012 Eden Road Cabernet Sauvignon
Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Gundagai
Hmm, new world, ripe fruit, very young. A bit vinfanticide for me. I also found it quite alcoholically hot.
