Dark core with reddish garnet rim; spice, black currant, red currant, clove, good tension in nose, very complex; palate was soft at first and very silky , great mid palate, mix of soft red and purple fruit, good acid, with air it put on a lot of weight and muscularity, fine grained but boatloads of that Oakville tannin; very good.
Dark fruit, dark chocolate, vanilla which toned down with airtime, red clay, currant, slight stewed fruit; palate is very nice, focused and structured, denser more angular tannin than the Maybach but not overmatched by much, pleasant and rich, red and black fruit, chocolate; very good.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dull crimson core with orange hued rim; nutty, bitter cherry, strawberry, orange oil, some high toned notes, more classic nose than more recent vintages; fuller body, silky tannin, soft cherry and orange; not as noble but old-school at this stage of its development, I like where it's at now and should stay in this phase for a few more years at least.
Dark core with dark crimson rim; tar, dark fruit, ripe stewed fruit, currant, pencil shavings, a whiff of green pepper; rich ripe palate, pencil lead, some grip, some jammy sweetness, seemingly a touch of RS not unlike many Zins, higher alcohol, minty finish; good.
Served blind; ruby see through; sweet red fruit counterbalanced by a green note, slight reductiveness, vanilla from good French oak, Burgundy, reminds me of an over performing but lesser region, sweet cranberry, sour cherry; sweet tart cherry and strawberry, white rock, good structure, just a little less depth and fat; tasty.
Very dark core with dull violet rim; leather, sulfur, olive brine but not too strong, dark berry, plum skin; good fruit on the palate, brine, good density but I like the freshness; good but not as great as it seemed from barrel in 2011.
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Very dark wine with thin garnet rim; dark berry, dense, plush, violets, olive tapenade rounds out flavor, Kalamata; dense but smooth mouthfeel, dark fruit, some rougher tannin later on, decent acid; good, classic New World Syrah, would consider buying at a good price.
Dark core with thinner bricking rim; stewed red fruit with darker slant, black olive, leather; rusty red fruit, good density, sweetness, nice dry finish, figgy; holding on; ok.
