2020 Domaine Jean Vullien & Fils Vin de Savoie Saint-Jean-de-la-Porte

Semitrans reddish violet, darker than I’d expect for somewhat entry level Mondeuse; nose doesn’t lead with black pepper but rather wild plum and raspberries, a very Rhone feel to this showing more warmth than I expect out of Savoie, a touch of white pepper on the end helps but this is a little nondescript for a unique grape like Mondeuse, am I pouring it out- no but I will give this a middle of the road B.

Light yellow green; nose suggests salt, pear skin, green fruit, underripe stone fruits, peach and apricot, leaner, Germanic styling, some waxiness, focused but not special, simpler on the palate, no real development into day 2; solid quaffer but not the next level was hoping for.

Wow, this was a really delicious and interesting wine. Thanks Carl. Lots of great black pepper, herbal notes, plums and mix of dark fruit with great acid; juicy and delicious with an awesome QPR.
