Ai Fiori - New York NY

Open and given a quick decant. I was surprising when Colin, our great Somm, tasted everything and suggested we start with this wine, but he was spot on. Black and red cherry with moderate spice and depth. Slightly firm, but very accessible for a 2005 NSG 1er.

Served in a mini DRC Echezeaux vertical, all open ~45 minutes before serving and double decanted. Lush and very ripe red cherry and berry with lots of spice that's unmistakably Vosne-styled. Very enjoyable today, but I really look forward to trying this in another decade+ as the baby fat softens and the concentration and raw materials really unfold into the wine this can be. This remained largely unchanged over the course of several hours tonight. In a sensational flight, this was my least favorite tonight, but i think this will be best from 2025 forward.

In a mini vertical of DRC Echezeaux, which were open ~45 minutes before serving with a quick double decant. This is a glass full of red berry and baking spice pleasure. This kept getting better and better with more air, and was my favorite wine at the single point in time at the very end of the night.

Tasted in mini DRC Echezeaux vertical, all of which were opened ~45 minutes before serving with a quick double decant. Lots of red and black cherry with allspice and nutmeg throughout. Lots of acidity and tannins were harmoniously integrated. This was my favorite wine when first poured and for the next hour; it seemed to shorten and shut down slightly by the end of the evening.

Very ripe, maturing black cherry aromas and flavors with good spice. Dense but slightly sweet, most notably at the end, detracting from the overall finish.

Red and black cherry with moderate depth, good balance. Far better vs last time I had this wine a few years ago. Not even close to the quality of its 1997 counterpart in the next glass.

Very rich, this shows a lot of black and red berry aromas and flavors that retain freshness and energy despite the vintage. Good density and structure really help here. Another consistently good Jadot 1997.

This was opened and decanted for 2-3 hours before serving. This was very backward when first opened, and remained backward and only faintly accessible for the entire time this was in front of us. I would at least expect weight and concentration from Chambertin at this early stage, and they just weren't there. For me, this was approximately a 90 point wine tonight.

This had been open 2-3 hours before serving with a double decant, but would have benefited from more time in decanter. Ripe for the vintage with intense spice throughout Very big and gamy, this has some slightly brooding elements for right now that comes across as having a few sharp elbows, but the wine's density and raw materials are very impressive.

Black plum and liqueur aromas. Dense and meaty on palate very cross-section of black berries and sauvage. I haven't had this wine in close to a decade, but now find it close to its peak drinking window.

2004 Bouchard Père et Fils Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Enjoyable, but far more advanced than I should expect from a wine at this level and age. Sad since this is the first poor bottle I can recall from this wine in 2004.

2008 Blain-Gagnard Le Montrachet 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Popped and poured. Lots of fat fruit that initially came across at fat and slightly simple. Expands with more air. Upside from here.
