Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2006 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

Very dark crimson with lighter crimson rim; lots of vanilla, dill, American oak, surprised by amount of red fruit, currant, cherry, ripe, licorice, balm; tart, some grip, lots of currant, wood tannin, some green pepper with lots of air, decent structure and balance; this would be so much better if they used a better cooper.

  • 2003 Stonestreet Legacy

USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

Dark garnet core with lighter garnet rim; vanilla, rosemary, cooked fruit, darker fruit, lots of spice, clove, allspice; some strong tannin, hints at red fruit with lots of dark fruit, eucalyptus, big, some pencil shavings; very decent, seemed like a more youthful and balanced example than others.

  • 2005 Stonestreet Legacy

USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

Black core with thin dull maroon rim; glycerin, menthol, black fruit, super ripe, showing some age, leather; large scaled, tannic, blackberry, mint, not gritty tannin but boatloads of fine tannin, tobacco, big, grilled green peppers; very different from the 2003 just before.

  • 2004 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Opaque core with dull brick rim; blueberry, blackberry, slight jammy fruit, some green and black olive and their brine, vanilla, creamy; menthol, tannin, currant; fooled me for an aged Australian Shiraz at first then the Cab took hold with air, very dense and extracted.
