France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Apple and pear with brown spice and background hints of stone fruit. Starts forward and lush, then refreshing energy and mineral textures come through in the middle. Holding very well.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Popped and poured. Black plum and cherry aromas with roasted game and dried thyme. Very young, still slightly backward, but entering its peak drinking window. Good concentration.
Not quite as interesting as another bottle last year. Good aromatic start with mature black cherry, leather and some roast game notes. Mature black fruit and some mushroom, but slightly hollow.
Black cherry with good concentration, moderate power, but lots of elegant structure for overall excellent balance. I liked this much better than another bottle from last year.
Extremely New World styled wine with gobs of lush black plum and currant, almost sweet. Easy to enjoy, but I found it a little top heavy and missing acidity
Large scaled black cherry and currant on nose and palate with good spice, some noticeable new oak. Excellent underlying structure maintaining balance, freshness and textural pleasure.
I haven't had this wine in several years and liked it much more when young. It seemed slightly dried out today with very modern styled fruit to start, but a simple finish.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Certainly a well made wine, but not exactly the style I prefer. Slightly ultra ripe with some jammy black fruit flavors, but this manages to retain good enough balance.
