Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • NV Ulysse Collin Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Les Pierrières 91 Points

    France, Champagne

Quite a rich and full-bodied style, its almost extravagantly ripe fruit buffered by a firm core of salty minerality and crisp acidity; very energetic, pure and well-defined, clean flavours; good length.

  • 2009 Quinta do Feital Alvarinho Dorado Superior 91 Points

    Portugal, Minho, Vinho Verde

Much fresher and more mineral than the 2005, crisp acidity, hint of carbon dioxide, green herbs steeped in sea water, citrus and lemon verbena, intensity without weight; liquorice root on the finish, good length. An unconventional wine with real tension and interest.

  • 2011 Quinta do Feital Alvarinho Dorado Natural 89 Points

    Portugal, Minho, Vinho Verde

First vintage without sulphur. Deeper colour than the 2009, slightly ruddy, not entirely clear, lots of carbon dioxide; quite funky on the nose, good depth but lacks definition; floral and savoury palate, juicy and primary, crisp but ripe acidity, pure and mineral, estery finish, good length. Fascinating but unfinished. Feels like an undisgorged Champagne.

  • 2007 Domaine Milan Le Vallon 90 Points

    France, Vin de Table Français

A really lively and vibrant profile, very youthful for an 8 year old Provence wine, pure and linear, crisp acidity, ripe cherry fruit, warm earth, good depth, garrigue, spices, energetic, juicy, quite prominent but attractive bitters from the skins, lifted flavours but (just) avoids being acetic, develops a juicy ripe Grenache softness; good length.

  • NV Balivet Vin du Bugey-Cerdon Méthode Ancestrale 88 Points

    France, Savoie, Vin du Bugey-Cerdon

Fresh and yeasty, slightly lactic, hint of funk, sweet strawberries, spices, bright, refreshing, crisp, light and juicy (8% ABV), estery raspberry fruit, delicately sweet, lively mousse, good length. Uncomplcated but really charming and attractive.
