  • 2004 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero 96 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Certainly a wine that clearly needed a lot of air and during the dinner it really didn't open up enough.
However, this is really an impressive wine and there is plenty of young primary flavors and depth but also a lot of balance.
It is truly a great wine but for me it lacked a little personality.A bit too generic for my palate.

  • 1998 Giuseppe Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 95 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Slow-ox decanted 24 hours in advance.
Really nice and open with a lot of VA but also dried cherry flavors, mushrooms and wet leaves. It is certainly a bit sweet but there is plenty of things to love in this wine. If you like this style.
The depth of flavors shows that there is still a lot of life in this wine and it will just continue to improve for 10+ years. Perhaps it lacks a little aftertaste to really impress..
There is a lot of balance present and the wine is unmistakably in the Quintarelli style.
Love the wine and the overall style.

  • 1982 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 98 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Still intense and fresh with plenty of fruit left. This bottle was really good and perhaps the best tasted yet.
The wine is all about the impressive balance where everything just fits together nicely while still having its own personality.
A huge wine. Will probably not improve from this point on but still able to keep for a very long time.

  • 2001 Château d'Yquem 100 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

What an impressive wine and I don't believe that Sauternes gets any better than this. Different and equally good but not better.
It is just packed with botrytis, tropical fruits, coconut and honey with an insanely long aftertaste. Everything is just perfectly integrated.
Simply an extraordinary wine where the hype for once merits the wine!! When tasting this wine it is difficult to find the right words.
The most fitting word is perfection :-)
