Everybody brought one er two bottles. You knew when your own wines were poured, but for the rest it was fully blind. (My bottles were Labégorce Zédé, Gloria and Gruaud Larose.)
Beautiful and mature bouquet with still some cassis, red berries, sweet spices, earth, autumn impressions and some vanilla. On the palate dark (cassis) and red berries, forest floor, a touch of bell pepper, salty licorice and vanilla. Good acidity, mild tannin with still some bite and soft bitterness in the finish. At its peak now. No extreme hurry, but probably wise to drink it over the next two years.
The bouquet shows some creamy and ripe red and dark forest fruits, vanilla and some toast. On the palate also pleasant and creamy, round fruits, something a bit green as well. Firm acidity and slightly sticky tannin. Fully mature now and it can last another year or two as well.
Beautiful, complex and luxurious bouquet with cassis, cedar, tobacco, earth and autumn impressions as well as some pleasant barnyard. On the palate a firm amount of red fruits, some licorice and spiciness. Some bell pepper. Firm acidity and tannin with still a good bite. The wine is mature and disappoints a bit on the palate. Maybe another two years of cellaring will do good, but I am not sure. I have one more bottle tucked away for 2017, so there will be a final follow up.
Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits and a touch of sweetness. On the palate juicy red and dark forest fruits, some creaminess, sweet spices and vanilla. Firm acidity and fairly mild tannin. The wine is ready now and will stay on this level for a few years. 87 - 88
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Mature bouquet with dark berries, smoke, cigar box and some barnyard flavors. On the palate a very mature wine with chocolate, some licorice, still ok acidity and tannin, but also some celery and lovage. This bottle has not been properly stored and already was a bit past its prime. No score.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Just a few words; celery and lovage. Ok acidity, but a bit organic and too old. This bottle has always been stored too warm and probably also upright. So no score; a properly stored bottle will probably be better.
In the bouquet red and dark berry fruits, some herbs and a touch of barnyard. On the palate red and dark berries as well, a touch of bell pepper, some herbs, firm acidity and tannin with still some bite. Really pleasurable wine which is at its prime now, but no real hurry.
In the bouquet dark forest fruits, vanilla and smoke. On the palate however the wine was not completely clean. There were dark fruits, chocolate, plums and vanilla. Firm acidity and firm and round tannin. A good structure, but no score.
Beautiful bouquet with mainly dark forest fruits. On the palate dark berries as well, vanilla, some herbs and spices, a touch of bell pepper, beautiful acidity and firm tannin. A really pleasant wine. 87 – 88
Mature bouquet with earth, forest floor, leather, minerals, mushrooms, sweet spices and some pleasant barnyard. On the palate good red and dark berries still, sweet spices, earth, beautiful acidity and soft tannin. Different layers in the taste. Completely ready now and really a beautiful wine. 89 – 90
Earth, red fruits and leather in the bouquet. On the palate earth and red berries as well, some bell pepper, some herbs, mild acidity and tannin. Good wine, but the owner expected a bit more, and after showing the label; so did I. Completely ready now.
Concentrated bouquet with a lot of apricots and caramel. Same on the palate. Beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity. Beautiful freshness and although very sweet, not really sticky. Can last for many more years.
