Introduction

two days after the celebration with wine-nona group I decided to invite just Hugo & Chanoch for a late SAturday night top quality tasting of few wines.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2005 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    dark translucent red-black
    rich dark ripe raisins nose, with sous-bois, earthy & spicy aromas that seduce you to sniff for long minutes;
    rich dark ripe fruity flavours, firm tannins, frill bodied, excellent harmony, balance & structure; outstanding complexity, spicy, leather, fungi, concentrated, unique, excellent aftertaste

    dark translucent red-brown

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 1990 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Coravin tasting
    very dark opaque red-purple
    outstanding classic Pauillac nose displaying black fruits, cassis, lead pencil, leather, cedar, cigar box, eucalyptus and mineral.
    Interestingly and surprisingly for the vintage, it shows noticeable green and lacks the opulent intense dark fruit. Excellent concentration, silky, well delineated, cassis driven palate impression with a hint of ash, good acidity, nicely integrated tannins and long finish that ends with a hint of ash.
    the nose left a huge impression, while the palate was at one level below - still an outstanding wine.

Closing

While the CDP and the Barbaresco were very good, the 1990 Pauillac almost shocked my guests: not only that it was an outstanding wine, but it was beyond any expectation for them.
Surely the best wine I tasted so far in 2016!
