Introduction
We get 10 wines in 10 glasses. All wines of a different varietal or blend and from a different location. We have to tell in approx 1 hour where the wine is produced and of which varietal or traditional blend, the vintage and as many details as we can give. For big ego’s this is the ultimate way to land with both feet on the ground and become humble again ;-) ;-)!
(Because it was at my place, I know all the wines. But another participant puts my glasses in a different order, so I taste the wines blind as well. And believe me, then it is still not easy to do....)
An importer/participant who had a tasting in the afternoon, brought 7 bottles for us to taste after the above described blind test. Also these extra wines were tasted fully blind.
2009 Cellier des Samsons Fleurie 78 Points
France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
Fruity. Cherries, candy; both in the bouquet as well as the mouth. Acidity, a bit unfriendly and sticky tannin and bitterness in the finish. Not really a great Fleury.

Freshness and dark cherries in the bouquet; a little warmer the bouquet is more intense with also some VA. On the palate the same, including some lactic impressions. Does not impress me.

Creamy and round. Some paprika. Merlot impressions as well. Ok and well made wine, but not really outspoken or distinguished. Drink now and the next 3 years.

2000 Domaine Langlois-Château Saumur Vieilles Vignes 83 Points

Some paprika in the bouquet. A touch of lead pencil as well. Same on the palate. Firm acidity. A bit green. Juicy still. Short finish. Overall not really great anymore. Lost most of its fresh fruit. Still ok, but probably past its peak.

2009 Bodegas Valdelacierva Rioja Valdelamillo 83 Points

Pleasant, somewhat creamy bouquet. A sweet start. Round and creamy on the palate. Very supple tannin. Medium bodied. Not really complex, but well below $10 an excellent buy.

2009 Yalumba Grenache Bush Vine 84 Points

Spicy and a bit creamy bouquet with some menthol. Quite sweet in the start and on the mid palate. A lot of soft spiciness. A crowd pleaser and nothing wrong with that. Ready now and the next few years.

2008 Turning Leaf Zinfandel 82 Points

Creamy bouquet. On the palate sweet ripe fruit juice, mainly raspberries. Some slightly vegetal impressions as well. The tannin is soft. Overall a creamy and easy going wine.

A little bit vegetal in the for the rest quite neutral bouquet. On the palate ripe forest fruits and a lot of sweetness. Soft tannin and bitterness and ok acidity. Ok wine, but nothing special.

Expressive and intense bouquet of lush red and black fruits. On the palate less impressive. Some sweetness and quite mature. Lacking a bit in acidity. Not really complex. Drink asap.
