We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted blind.
Transparent dark red. Expressive and attractive, but simple, bouquet. Juicy red fruits on the palate. Some cherry candy fruits. Hardly any tannin, soft acidity and bitterness. A pleaser and for a price around $8 a great qpr.

Transparent light red. Expressive and attractive bouquet with red fruits and some brushwood. On the palate juicy red fruits, some cherries, chocolate and dusty impressions. Friendly and round with low tannin, soft acidity and bitterness and also a little depth. Not really complex, but for around $8 a really great qpr.

Transparent red. At first lactic in the bouquet, but that disappears after a while. Then there are some cherries. Within 15 minutes the wine gives completely different impressions on the palate. At first just strange minerality, but acceptable with barnyard and some drying tannin. After a short while the wine becomes really unpleasant with tastes I cannot describe. Not anyone of the tasters thought this was a faulty bottle, but I hope so. I will score it anyway in case I come across this wine again, but I certainly will never buy it.

Expressive and very perfumed bouquet with rose flower leafs,. Same on the palate with a lot of litchi. Also ok acidity and some bitterness. A very special, not really complex, but certainly pleasant wine. To drink young I guess.

Light transparent purple red. In the bouquet ripe red and dark bitter cherries. Same on the palate with firm, but ok acidity. Also a slight bit of lactic impressions. Very primary, but overall pleasant easy going simple wine.

Light transparent red. Bouquet with some depth and earthiness. On the palate also earthiness, good acidity and round tannin. In an Italian blind tasting this was the wine with more body, depth and complexity. Very good to excellent wine.

This wine is made of 97% Sangiovese and 3% Canaiolo. The result is a light transparent red wine with in the bouquet impressions of medicine and friendly cherries and dry dog food…..?. On the palate a bit special with candy flavors and some drying bitterness in the finish. Special and hard to score…..well 85…for me now.

Transparent dark red. Cherries in the bouquet. Concentrated cherries in the mouth, firm but soft bitterness, firm acidity and tannin as well. Not really complex, but full bodied and with a long finish. At $13 a very good qpr.

Mature, dusty, tertiary, soft cedar, autumn forest, earthy, nuts, some bitterness, friendly acidity, a touch of sweetness, buttery and silky soft tannin. In fact impressively beautiful.

2007 Beni di Batasiolo Barbera d'Alba Sovrana 83 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
Primary dark cherries and a bit dusty in the bouquet. Also juicy cherries and a firm amount of bitterness on the palate. Hardly any tannin. A very primary and friendly, one-dimensional wine.

2006 Beni di Batasiolo Barolo 85 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Light transparent red color. In the bouquet there are red fruits and some bacon flavors. On the palate some earthy and autumn impressions. The tannin is a bit drying in the finish. The ingredients are there, but overall this is one of the most disappointing Barolo's I tasted. It lacks real structure and complexity. Maybe some more ageing will help, but I don't think this will ever be great.
