Lungarotti Sagrantino Tasting. Drank in Grassl 1855. Apperance fine sediment, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of tarred dark earth, black olives, dark red plums, black plums, blueberries, black cherries, dark licorice, stony minerality, dark meat + sice. Developing. On the palate, dry, very high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), super-structured fine but high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark meat, smoke, grilled herbs, olives, black licorice, black plums, black cherries, blackberries, stony mineral vein. Juicy long finish. Very good quality. Built to last. Still can go another 5 years easily. This Sagrantino has some Syrah-like characteristics, with even more structure.

A beautifully round wine with decent acidity. Unfortunatel it had a very disturbing burn of alcohol in the finale. Maybe their climate is too hot for Chardonnay after all..

In general, I like Montefalco wines. i enjoy their dark, velvety color and fragrance. This is a good Montefalco. Not stellar - would be perfect if priced at $25/bottle. It is rich, intense, with a hint of cherries and chocolate.

Weekly tasting group #018; Italy. (@ WW): Transparent dark red. Fairly deep, somewhat smoky bouquet. In the mouth ripe cherry juice, a touch of sweetness and chocolate. Nice wine!

Sagrantino Day International (Rome, Piazza Colonna - Sala Angiolillo nella sede de Il Tempo): No varietal character in appearance, smell or taste. Clear; low acidity, high tannins, out of balance, light body, short and simple.
